Byeong Hun An's blunt stance: Is he right to dismiss support for players outside the top 100?

The PGA Tour is all set to make some huge changes in the American league but only from the 2026 season. There is more than a year before those are implemented and only if the Players’ Advisory Council votes for it. However, changes like reducing the field sizes, the cards given to KFT individuals, and most importantly, only the top 100 on the FedEx securing their cards for next season instead of 125 have stunned the golf world. While many fans have spoken against it, the PGA Tour finds, the recent winner of the Genesis Championship supporting their decision.

Notorious for speaking his mind, Byeong Hun An once again shared his opinion on PGA Tour changes. He posted a tweet on X and backed the new cut in FedExCup standings and the field size, saying,I always thought when you have a “full” tour card(kornferry graduates, q school), you should be able to play every single non signature events that you want to play. 125 to 100 fedex ranking was needed.🤷‍♂️” So, many agreed with An’s point that the ones who have the card should be playing all the events except the elevated ones.

But the people had an issue with what would happen to the other 100 who lost their cards. Thus, this fan dejectedly replied to An’s tweet and said, “Agreed. I wish they’d support guys outside of the top 100.” The South Korean pro didn’t hold back either. He further explained why the new rules were better. He nonchalantly expressed that he didn’t “see the reason to support guys outside top 100” because they lost their membership. But “we have to support guys made it through KFT and q school,” said the 2-time DP World Tour winner.

Many would find An’s stance on the issue problematic, but the South Korean pro has always been transparent and vocal about his statement. Even if it later forces him to release an apology for speaking his mind before taking in the consequences.

The Presidents Cup was a buzzing event for the Americans and all the international fans, as the back-and-forth between the two teams kept the tension and the drama high. Amidst all that, Si Woo Kim celebrated after his unexpected birdie putt with Stephen Curry’s famous ‘night night’ walk. At that time, Kim didn’t get anything back. But Kim with Tom Kim lost that Foursomes against Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.

Have an interesting take?

Courtesy of that, Wyndham Clark mimicked the ‘night night’ celebration as mocking Kim, so coming in his teammate’s support, Byeong Hun An took a jab at the 2023 US Open winner. He tweeted, “You always have a guy in your group who doesn’t do sh-t but talk sh-t all day.” This stung and Clark wasn’t going to stay silent. He threw the dart directly at An’s heart, saying, “Then there is the guy who didn’t have a tee time” alluding to how An wasn’t selected for any Saturday sessions.

And he didn’t stop there. An has won two events on the DP World Tour that too with 9 years gap. However, on the PGA Tour, he has won none. Joking about that, Clark said, “I can’t really say a player hasn’t done sh-t when you’ve literally never won a PGA Tour event.” Remember that even before Clark’s statements An issued an apology and implied that he wanted to be a better player.

So when you see an opinion of An, do not be shocked. He is used to it and although he has to apologize for it, he may not be stopped at least from sharing a few.
