The rivalry between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf is far from over. After months of stability, the feud has once again come to the fore. This is thanks to Rory McIlroy taking a jab at one of his former Ryder Cup teammates and Team Europe’s initial 2023 captain for the Binellial event before he let go, Henrik Stenson!
Just hours ago, the Irishman blasted Henrik Stenson publicly on Twitter. When the 4-time major winner was asked, saying now that he had sided with Jon Rahm, who had defected to LIV, to compete in the 2025 Ryder Cup, did he also want 2023’s original European captain, Stеnson, who was removed from the post due to his switch to take charge as well? Responding to that, McIlroy stated that he did not believe that at all. In fact, he went so far as to say that Stenson’s firing was “the best thing” that had happened for the 2023 Ryder Cup. And now he faces the consequences of his words from his former captain’s LIV colleague!

Unsurprisingly, McIlroy’s tweet did not sit well with the LIV golfers, and one, Lее Wеstwood, even took to clap back at the star. Taking his own jab at the PGA Tour loyalist, Westwood responded to his tweet on Twitter with his own jab, brushing aside the Irishman’s hate! He wrote, “Nice to see the season of good will in full swing! Mеrry Christmas!!!”

Westwood and McIlroy, who were once Ryder Cup teammates, have been at odds ever since the former joined the Saudi side. Their feud ignited when the Irishman accused him and the other LIV players of being greedy and selfish and damaging golf’s reputation as well as tainting their Ryder Cup legacy, and it seems like time hasn’t really healed that wound.
The LIV star’s reaction further triggered a flurry of reactions from golf fans, who flooded Twitter with their own lashes against McIlroy!
A few fans claimed that Rory McIlroy himself was bitter because he was stuck on the PGA Tour with no way out.
He is just expressing his frustration for not taking the millions

Another fan stood up for Stenson’s Ryder Cup legacy and praised the LIV golfer’s achievements and contributions to the European golf team, in turn criticizing McIlroy for his lack of respect for the veteran.
Unbelievably disrespectful comment. Henrik is a European legend, does so much for local golf. Proud European.

Yet another fan took a jab at the 4-time major winner, claiming he was “salty” because Stenson had won a major more recently than him, with McIlroy’s last coming in 2014 while the now-LIV golfer bagged the PGA Championship in 2016.
He’s salty Henriks won a major more recently than he has.

A few fans, on the other hand, sided with the Irishman and, in turn, lashed out at Westwood, stating that what McIlroy had said was nothing but the truth. They firmly believe that the LIV golfer being sacked as the Ryder Cup captain has worked out for the best.
Truth always hurts

The tension between these two golfers raises questions about the future of not just the Ryder Cup but of golf as a whole. With the merger between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf currently in the works, a feud like this between the two sides could spell disaster for the deal. So can McIlroy and Westwood bury the hatchet for the bigger picture? Stay tuned to find out.
