The sixth edition of The Rocket Mortgage Classic is on the way! Renowned for its distinctive Motown music sound from the 1960s, the players on the PGA Tour are ready for an intense battle in Detroit, Michigan. Unfortunately, the Tour has witnessed several weather-related disruptions this year.

Multiple events saw delays due to rain and darkness. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am even had to cancel its final round earlier in February. The majors too were not spared, and fans dealt with delayed rounds at Augusta National and even at the PGA Championship. Will that be the case for this week’s event too? Well, maybe!

According to reports on Tuesday, the officials of the Classic event decided to push the gate timings from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. due to the possibility of a thunderstorm. The torrential storm pounded the course with rain for most of the morning, partially delaying proceedings after a continuous two-hour storm.

The event is scheduled to begin on Thursday, June 27, and fortunately, the weather then is better. According to Accuweather, it predicts a sunny day with only a 1% chance of precipitation. During the day, the wind will blow from the north at approximately 8 mph.

Forecasters also predict pleasant temperatures for the first round, with a high of 77°F and a low of 73°F, accompanied by a 9% cloud cover. All in all, despite the thunderstorm start, Round 1’s weather prediction as of now does point to a ‘good day’ to be on the course.

Sadly in the days that follow, the weather does not promise a clear and sunny sky. A 25% precipitation is predicted for Round 2, Friday, and it only increases, to 53% on Saturday. Along with the cold morning breeze, the event may also witness a couple of showers and thunderstorms. Sunday however, currently promises neutral weather with a mostly sunny afternoon. The weather for this week is undoubtedly erratic, and the players are no doubt in for a treat.

What can players expect after the recent downpour at the Detroit Golf Club?

Following the heavy rain, the Detroit Golf Club is looking lush and inviting. Adding to the excitement brought on by the scenic view is also the relative ease of Detroit Golf Club’s setup. The course has led to a low scoring and fever-filled environment for the Rocket Mortgage Classic compared to other PGA Tour stops. This was quite evident during the previous outings at the golf club. Rickie Fowler won the 2023 tournament at 24-under after prevailing in a three-man playoff, and 2022 winner Tony Finau shot 26-under.

The weather will no doubt play a big role in the golfers’ game this week; however, low rounds and intense competition are almost guaranteed. With 10 of the world’s top 50 players (as per OWGR) taking the course this week, it is no doubt anyone’s game. Tune in to find out if your favorite golfer can take home the trophy.
