Min Woo Lee's daring style at the Presidents Cup—Love it or leave it?

The mullet gang – if there was one ever to exist – got a new ‘International’ member. And Cameron Smith now has a compatriot who followed in his footsteps. Australia’s rising star, Min Woo Lee has got a Presidents Cup-themed hairstyle. Lee, making his Presidents Cup debut, has carved ‘INT’ (abbreviation for International) on the side of his head.

Lee, already an Internet sensation thanks to his easy-going personality and social media antics, hopped on the trend of Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup special styles. Lee is now sporting a mullet, something that his compatriot, Cameron Smith, swears by.

Last year, Sam Burns had ‘USA’ etched on his sides. Whereas, Brooks Koepka, also sported a mullet at Marco Simone. The trend has clearly lived on a year later.

It’s a pleasant surprise. But a mullet was always in the offing. Lee first talked about it when he made his PGA Tour full-season debut early this year. “In Australia, every second person has a mullet. So a gotta keep mullet trend growing.” Well, no one seems to be complaining.

Min Woo Lee knows how to spice things up

Have an interesting take?

The International team has no dearth of big names. Hideki Matsuyama is making his sixth Presidents Cup appearance at Royal Montreal. The Japanese has already won twice this season. Lee’s compatriot, Adam Scott, has ten previous appearances under his belt. Yet, it seems Min Woo Lee is the needle mover.

Was I just successfully influenced to root for the international team?” one user wrote. Lee’s fashion choice – Lululemon sponsors him – has already turned heads. One user joked, “Felt the aura 5 scrolls away.

Let the barber cook,” another of his fans quipped. In the arena of professional golf, Lee is now synonymous with the phrase, ‘let him cook.’ Even the Australian International can’t exactly pinpoint how and when it started. But he has embraced him nevertheless, literally donning a chef’s hat last year. His fans – an exponentially growing bunch – sported red chef’s hats with ‘Let Him Cook’ etched on the front, at the WM Phoenix Open. Don’t be surprised to see a similar trend in Canada this week. One user wrote, “Bringing the sauce, Chef!

In fact, Lee’s compatriot and former PGA Tour pro, Brett Rumford, also took notice of the new man in town. Rumford has always been a believer in Min Woo Lee and young guns rising in Australia. “These guys are great players. They turn Pro and they will start to learn the trade professionally. They are big fish in the pond at the moment but it is all stepping stones and learning,” the 47-year-old said in 2015 after teeing off in the same tournament with Lee. This time, Rumford commented, “Love it,” with a laughing emoji.

Certainly, Lee is following in the footsteps of Sam Burns and Brooks Koepka. But none’s Kentucky Waterfall made waves like Lee’s did. It remains to be seen how his fans react to this at Royal Montreal this week.
