The LPGA Tour returns to Arizona this week- a state that the elite female’s circuit has visited more than seventy times since 1950. The penultimate event before the LPGA’s first major will tee off at Seville Golf and Country Club. This is the first time the par 72, 7036-yard layout is hosting a professional event in its two decades of existence.
But the debutant course will see much action considering the loaded field headed to Grand Canyon State. Before the tournament tees off on March 28, let’s take a deeper look at the course that sits some 40 miles south of the PGA Tour’s iconic venue, TPC Scottsdale.
Seville Golf and Country Club has an island green on 17th
The Seville Golf and Country Club is part of the Dallas-headquartered lifestyle company Invited’s portfolio. The course was designed by Gary Panks, the famous golf architect who conceived the Greyhawk Golf Club, partnering with PGA Tour pro- David Graham.
The greens are of a wide variety, favoring no one type of game. The Bermuda grass fairways are generous, but dotted tree lines add a layer of toughness. Interestingly, the par-3 17th is the most iconic hole of the course, featuring an island green like TPC Sawgrass. The bunker on the right can prove to be challenging, offering hopes of late drama.

The Ford Championship venue sits like an oasis, nestled around the deserted landscape of Arizona. The course also offers a stunning view of the panoramic vista walled by the San Tan mountains and ringed with the Gila River. The Seville Golf and Country Club also comes with multiple facilities like swimming pools, billiard rooms, tennis, volleyball, and basketball courts.

The LPGA Tour made the venue announcement in December. But Ford, the title sponsor, came onto the scene only last month, signing an agreement with the female’s circuit for a year. The Tour has headed to Arizona before but stopped for the first time in Gilbert. For Maricopa County residents, this is a unique opportunity to catch a glimpse of the LPGA’s crème de la crème.

Undoubtedly, reigning world no. 1, Nelly Korda headlines the field. Korda reclaimed her world-ranking crown after a playoff victory against Ryann O’Toole at the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship. The 26-year-old is looking to win back-to-back titles, something the Bradenton resident has not done since 2021.

Ranked 8th in the Rolex World Ranking Lydia Ko, whose Hall of Fame attempt was thwarted by Korda at the LPGA Drive On Championship, returns to action after tying for fourth at the Blue Bay LPGA. Korda and Ko are only two of the nine top-10s teeing up at the 2024 Ford Championship. All five winners of this season are heading to Seville Golf and Country Club for the $2.25 million purse event. Cristie Kerr, seven points short of her own Hall of Fame Glory, also makes a comeback to the greens in the state where she was born.
