Cut day at CJ Cup Byron Nelson once again opened the doors for a longshot winner. Round three will kickstart without a few usual names including the highest-ranked player in the field. Jake Knapp is once again leading the field in his rookie season. The former nightclub bouncer shot his second consecutive 7-under 64 to move one shot ahead of opening-round leader Matt Wallace.

Scoring has been low in soft Bentgrass greens. The third round kick starts at 8.20 AM EDT on Saturday. Check out the full tee times and pairings for the moving day at TPC Craig Ranch.

The $9.5M purse tournament is effectively the penultimate event before the PGA Championship as the Myrtle Beach Classic, and the Signature event, Wells Fargo Championship coalesce next weekend. Aside from the $1.71M winner’s payout, the eventual winner will also earn 500 FedEx Cup points. But a few big names will be missing from the list.

Jordan Spieth’s woeful form continued at hometown

Jordan Spieth couldn’t find the reset button he was looking for at TPC Craig Ranch. The three-time Major champion, who made his PGA Tour debut at HP Byron Nelson in 2010, bowed out unceremoniously carding 4-under 138. The highlight of his second round was when his ball ricocheted off a spectator’s elbow on the 16th. Since THE PLAYERS, Spieth has missed four cuts. Not the ideal practice for a golfer standing two weeks away from a career grand slam.

Matt Kuchar, another Byron Nelson regular missed the cut for the second time in his 15th appearance. Kevin Kisner, who is making more headlines with his hot mic than his irons, failed to book the weekend spot for the eighth time in his last ten starts.

Amidst all this, Kris Kim, the English sensation shot 4-under 67 dotted with six birdies and two bogeys. Risk-free golf rewarded his game as the 16-year-old became the youngest player since Kyle Suppa to make the cut at any PGA Tour event. Scottie Scheffler was 17 when he did so seven years back at the very same tournament.
