The PGA Tour stops at Utah for its third FedEx Cup fall tournament. The inaugural Black Desert Championship will kick off this Thursday, October 10, 2024. However, the tour’s big events this year have faced weather troubles. Be it the WM Phoenix Open or the Tour Championship, inclement weather has either delayed or stopped the regular proceedings altogether. Will the same fate befall the Black Desert Championship? What does the weather report from Utah reveal?
Black Desert Championship unlikely to face Mother Nature’s wrath
Fortunately, there is no chance of rain at Ivins, Utah, during the four days of the tournament. The first round will be played under a sunny sky with temperatures rising to 91F. The humidity level is expected to stay around 16%. Afternoon clouds will gather around later in the day. The wind speed will remain around 11 MPH.

On the moving day, too, clouds will protect the players from a scorching sun. The temperature again hovers between 91F and 61F. The Weather Channel predicts the Utha sky will be partly cloudy. Wind speed will swing between 8 and 10 MPH. There are no chances of downpours, however. On Sunday, the weather forecast indicates a bright sunny day with a 0% chance of rain. The maximum temperature will drop to 89F. Humidity levels are expected to be within 19%.

So, the third event of the FedEx Cup Fall season won’t face any hindrance from Mother Nature. That’s good news for a tournament in its inaugural year. After all, the Black Desert Championship was added to this year’s schedule quite unexpectedly.
How the PGA Tour came to Utah in 2024
The PGA Tour wasn’t supposed to land in Utah until next year. The Black Desert Resort course wasn’t fully PGA Tour-ready, and neither was the resort. The construction work was still ongoing when the decision was made that the Black Desert Championship would debut in 2024.

The reason is that CJ Cup Byron Nelson and Texas Children’s Houston Open were moved up in the schedule, opening two empty spots in the FedEx Cup Fall calendar. And now the PGA Tour returns to Utah for the first time since 1963.
The resort isn’t running at full capacity yet. Just 250 rooms of an eventual 800 are ready. According to a Golf Channel report, Lanto Griffin became the resort’s first guest. Interestingly, the course will also host an LPGA tournament early next year. The PGA Tour’s Black Desert Championship lacks field strength. The star, at least on Thursday, is the layout that was carved out of a lava rock.
