The 2023 LIV Golf Greenbrier has returned this week to the iconic Old White Golf Course in West Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. This event will be a strong play held from August 4 to August 6, sanctioned by the Saudi-backed league, LIV Golf. Following its successful venture in London, this is LIV Golf’s 10th event of this season.

In this most coveted tournament, a total of 12 LIV Golf teams, ergo, 48 players with 4 players in each team, will constitute the field. Other than these, since this is an event in the LIV series, the prize pool is considerably handsome. So, let’s take a look at what’s at stake in this tournament!

A total of 48 players will be on the field, split into 12 individual teams. Since LIV Golf is fairly new, this event at Greenbrier is taking place for the first time in 2023 and thus doesn’t have any defending champion. We are likely to see old LIV faces, but they will be participating for the first time in this event. One of the renowned players we are likely to witness is Phil Mickelson, who is the captain of the HyFlyers GC and is a six-time major champion. This Hall of Famer is already bucking up with his new Callaway irons for this event.

Another name that is a top pick for the game is Cameron Smith, who recently won the LIV Golf London event, and bagged the hefty $4 million winner’s share. Alongside him will be the people’s favorite, Brooks Koepka. The Smash GC captain has a different hype in his name. Other than these, all the remaining LIV defectors have promised their participation in the tournament this year.

Prize money distribution for LIV golf’s new tournament

This event is taking place for the first time on this 71-par course. The total purse for the event is $25 million, with the individual competitors splitting $20 million. And the winner will have a scoop of $4 million as his share. And from the prize purse, $5 million is kept for the team element, with the top three sides dividing the money. LIV Golf, as of now, can not offer FedEx or OWGR points to the winner.
