Who’s your pick for the Greenbrier showdown: the power of DeChambeau or the precision of Koepka?

Scintillating! What else can be used to dub Jon Rahm as clinching the title at JCB Golf & Country Club? But the question would be whether he would be able to replicate the same, but this time at West Virginia, or more specifically, at the Old White. But standing against him and the trophy would be the rest of the 53 athletes at LIV Golf Greenbrier.

The field at LIV Golf Greenbrier, as usual, will comprise a total of 54 golfers who will tee off in a shotgun start at the iconic venue. Rahm, meanwhile, will look to emerge victorious and shoot past Joaquin Niemann on the season-long leaderboard, behind whom the Spaniard is currently tailing. However, to do that, the 2023 Masters champ will have to beat the defending champion, Bryson DeChambeau, and the Chilean golfer as he tees off alongside them at hole No. 1, as per the official announcement!

DeChambeau, on the other hand, will also hope to replicate his previous season’s performance that he was able to showcase at the Old White. He emerged victorious at the 2023 LIV Golf Greenbrier by scoring his career-low figures of 12-under 58, all the while posting the lowest score in the history of the Saudi-backed league. What’s more, with a win at the 2024 U.S. Open, the ‘Scientist’ will surely look to confidently clinch the title of champion. But not everyone will be in the best of moods going into the event. Enter Brooks Koepka and his team, Smashers GC!

Is Brooks Koepka in trouble? The setback he faced ahead of LIV Golf Greenbrier

“I take full responsibility and have accepted the sanctions from LIV Golf,” wrote a disappointed Graeme McDowell on Instagram as he alluded to the one-match ban he received from the league. Moreover, he was also asked to pay a hefty fine of $125,000, all the while retroactively adjusting the athlete’s and his team’s results as well as the prize money he received from the LIV Golf event in Nashville.

How did it happen? Well, the Northern Irishman himself explained the whole situation on his social media handle. He added, “During LIV Golf Nashville, I was selected for a random test as part of the league’s anti-doping program. I had mistakenly used an over-the-counter medicated decongestant stick for congestion that included a banned substance, resulting in a positive test.”

Have an interesting take?

The 45-year-old, apparently, used a decongestant medicine that included a banned substance known as R-methamphetamine. As a result, he failed the league’s strict anti-doping policy and was also dished out appropriate punishment. Although McDowell was soon replaced by John Catlin, the team will look to find their rhythm and hope to emerge victorious at LIV Golf Greenbrier!
