The much anticipated FedEx Cup playoffs for the 2023 season commenced yesterday at TPC Southwind with with elite golfers headlining the event. All 70 players competing at the tournament want to see themselves proceeding to the next week and are fighting hard for it.
And the world No.1 Scottie Scheffler, steps on the ground at St Jude Championship, he gets to play in his dream team of some of the best golfers. And Scheffler couldn’t stop praising them. Let’s dig in to find out what he said about them.

Though Scheffler didn’t have a great start yesterday, he quickly bounced back in his good form and was more than happy to find himself in the company of top golfers on the ground. In the first round, Scheffler was paired up with players like Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm, After the first round ended, the 2022 Masters winner was asked about what he felt about playing in the same group as them.
On this, Scheffler sang high praises of his PGA buddies. He said, “I mean, just you’ve got two of the best players in the world, and I’m sure when things kind of settle at the end of our careers, they’ll be two of the greatest players to play”
For Scottie watching the two best players exhibiting their golfing skills was a fun experience. He further appreciated the forms of McIlroy and Rahm. And though Rahm held back for the day, Scheffler hopes that he will quickly bounce. “Rory, the way he drives the ball is pretty ridiculous, and the way Jon fights out there — obviously he didn’t have his best stuff today, but you still see the talent there. He’s so good. ” He said.
For the 2022 Arnold Palmer winner playing well in the playoff is a big goal. His aim at the moment is to bring the Ryder Cup home and he is willing to make big sacrifices for this goal. And Scheffler has also brought major changes to achieve this goal.

Before the first week of the playoffs, Scheffler didn’t leave any stone unturned for the big event. With the stakes so high, Scheffler made some major changes in their hardware. While Scottie ditched his Scottie Cameron Newport that he regularly uses and replaced it with two TaylorMade Spider X putters. He was seen practicing at TPC with them this week. He also used them in the first round, and though he lagged behind at the earlier fourth and fifth holes, he revived and did better. After the first round, he is at T15 on the leaderboard.
Meanwhile, McIlroy took his spot on T15 and Rahm was quite behind on T65. However, watching his teammates deliver quality shows on the ground is serving as an inspiration for Scheffler.
