As the Canadian Open kicks off on Thursday, many in the 120-player field will want to make a stellar impression at the event. Here are some of the favorites to watch out for at the upcoming event:
World No. 28 and 11-time PGA Tour winner Justin Rose is at number 5. The English golfer mustered up a T9 finish at the recently concluded PGA Championship and has kept the momentum going at the Memorial Tournament as well. He had also recorded a T4 finish at the 2022 Canadian Open.
Coming in at number 4, we have Canada’s Corey Conners. The 31-year-old is one of three Canadian winners on the PGA Tour this season. While the golfer missed the cut at the 2023 Memorial Tournament, he had a good outing at the PGA Championship, where he tied for the 12th position. He also competed in the Wells Fargo Championship last month, finishing T8 on the leaderboard.
At number 3, we have World No. 13, Sam Burns. Despite his early exit from Oak Hill, the 26-year-old was able to turn things around at the Charles Schwab Challenge, finishing tied for the 6th position. The golfer also had a top-5 finish at last year’s edition of the Canadian Open.

He has also carried his blistering form to Muirfield for the coveted Memorial Tournament. There is no doubt that the reigning Canadian Open winner has set his sights on another win this year.28-year-old Matt Fitzpatrick, who achieved a top-10 finish at the Canadian Open last year, is at number 1. The golfer’s last PGA Tour win came at the 2023 RBC Heritage in April. After a dismal showing at Oak Hill, the World No. 8 will want to return to his winning ways before the year’s third major kicks off.

Rory McIlroy emerged as the winner at the last two editions of the event. In 2019, he bested Shane Lowry and Webb Simpson by seven shots to claim the title. Carding a 9-under 61 in the final round, McIlroy eventually took home $1,368,000 for his win that year. The Canadian Open was subsequently canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The golfer once again returned in 2022 to nab the Canadian Open title for a second time. That year, McIlroy finished ahead of the likes of Tony Finau, Justin Thomas, and Sam Burns. He also took home an incredible $1,566,000 in earnings for his win. Given his current form, it shouldn’t come as any surprise that the golfer is a huge favorite to win the Canadian Open this time around as well!
