The DP World Tour and Ladies European Tour have created a unique legacy by co-sanctioning talented golfers from both Tours to take part in one event. The Scandinavian Mixed is one of the most unique events in golf history, which has enabled gender equality to become a reality on the greens by introducing this co-ed tournament three years ago.

Previously known as the Scandinavian Masters, 2020 saw the event rebranded as The Scandinavian Mixed and later as Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed in 2022. But did the prize money distribution change as much as the event’s name? Let us look at how much the winner’s share will be this season.

In 2021, the debut of the Scandivinian Mixed saw a purse of only $1 million. However, since the following year, the prize pool has consistently been $2 million every year. 2024 will be no exception. The 2021 winner, Jonathan Caldwell took $145,160 at Vallda Golf & Country Club, and the winner of this season is promised $330,330. Although both genders are participating in the tournament, there will be only one trophy and one victorious champion from either the DP World Tour or the Ladies European Tour.

Will there be any gender-specific reservations at the Scandinavian Mixed?

The fourth staging of this co-ed tournament aims to bring a sense of gender equality to the golf course. While several tournaments are thus designed to discover the best male golfer or the female in their respective Tours, Annika Sorenstam and Henrik Stenson have envisioned a reality where both genders fight against each other to claim the crown simply based on skills. The division drawn by gender shall not be a component hence, to find the winner at the Scandinavian Mixed.

Thus, the event can be observed to have a 72-hole stroke-play game this season at Vasatorps Golfklubb in Helsingborg, Sweden. And without any reservation for any gender, the player who scores the lowest over the four rounds or the 72 holes will be crowned a winner. This lack of reservation can also be found after the second round or the 36th hole when a cut has to be made by the players. Out of the initial 156, only the top 65 players will be able to move forward and play in the last round.

The goal of the Scandinavian Mixed was slowly felt in the golf world when Linn Grant won with a 9-stroke margin of victory in 2022. The Hall of Fame thus containing both males and females shows the capacities and skills both genders possess which need to be tested on common grounds.
