After an exciting penultimate round, the final round of the US Women’s Open is scheduled to be held on Sunday, June 2. The major has no doubt been pretty thrilling until now, and in just a few hours, the golf world will have a new US Women’s Open champion. And seeing how the third round concluded in a three-way tie for the first position, it’s still anyone’s game!

Minjee Lee and Andrea Lee, along with the dark horse, Wichanee Meechai, are leading the scoreboard at 5-under par. Meechai has not only never won an LPGA major, but she has also never made it to the top 10. What makes her feat even more impressive is that she’s beat out big names like Nelly Korda, Lexi Thompson, and Rose Zhang, who didn’t even manage to make the cut on Friday.

When will the top 5 tee off on Sunday at the 2024 US Women’s Open?

Although the leader’s spot is occupied by three women golfers, Hinako Shibuno and Yuka Saso are close behind them with scores of 3 under 207 and 2 under 208, respectively. The battle for the top 5 will no doubt be more than interesting to watch, and fans can do so live from 6:53 p.m. BST onwards, when Sakura Koiwai and Yuka Saso (the third last group) tee off.

The final round, conversely, will commence with solo starter Caroline Inglis teeing off at 11:45 a.m. BST (considering there are 75 players on the field, she will be the one with no partner for the final 18 holes). The remainder of the 74 players will follow her thereafter, as per below:

This is the second time that Lancaster Country Club is hosting the US Women’s Open. The Pennsylvania Greens hosted the major in 2015. Back then, In Gee Chun emerged victorious. This time, of course, the next few hours will decide who takes home the trophy; however, the odds seem to be in Minjee Lee’s favor!

Will Minjee Lee emerge as a 3-time Major winner?

Lee, having already won two majors before, is looking pretty strong on the field this week, and her experience at big events, especially the US Women’s Open, makes her a formidable force. The LPGA star won her first major in 2021 at the Evian Championship after posting an 18 under 266 (68, 69, 65, and 64). Her second major came almost exactly two years ago, at the 2022 US Women’s Open. She beat Mina Harigae by four strokes, ending the event with a whopping 13 under 271!

There is no doubt that Minjee Lee is the most successful professional among the top 5 on the leaderboard heading into the final round. It’s clear that her experience is helping her shine through. Where others have faltered, like Korda with a spetuple bogey and a 10-over round, Lee has thrived. She has no over-par scores this week and even managed an eagle in the third round.
