The Majors might be over for the season, but the PGA Tour events are not. Kick-starting from 25th July at the TPC Twin Cities, the 2024 3M Open will have a prize pool of $8.1 million. With only a day left before its commencement, the PGA Tour has already announced the tee timings and pairings for the first round.
Many notable names are missing from the list after last week’s Major. The preparation for the Paris Olympics next week might be one of the reasons. However, there are a few names that will feature in the event without any rest after a hectic Open Championship at Troon. Billy Horschel, the runner-up at Troon, will be up again fighting in the 3M Open.
The event will be inaugurated by Michael Kim, the Seoul-born golfer who finished T14 at the Canadian Open this season. The 31-year-old, who won the John Deere Classic in 2018, missed the cuts in his last two events. Along with him, Ryan Moore, and Scott Gutschewski will also tee up from the first hole at 7:45 am ET. Moore has been in Major’s Top 10 thrice. Besides, he has also won the 2016 John Deere Classic. Gutschewski, on the other hand, has won thrice on the Korn Ferry Tour. On the opposite side, Joel Dahmen, Martin Laird, and Justin Lower will tee off at the same time.

Are the past two winners of the 3M Open paired together?
In 2022, Tony Finau won the 3M Open at the TPC Twin Cities. He was leading with a 3-stroke victory against the runner-ups, Argentinian golfer Emiliano Grillo and the South Korean golfer Im Sung-Jae. Last year, the winner was Lee Hodges. In the history of the 3M Open, it was only Hodges who could keep a brilliant 7-stroke distance from the three runner-ups, J. T. Poston, Kevin Streelman, and Scottish Martin Laird. Both these past winners, Finau and Hodges, will be teeing off from the 10th tee together at 8:18 am ET.

Along with Finau and Hodges, Akshay Bhatia will also tee up from the group. This 22-year-old golfer has caught much attention from golf veterans after his T16 finish in the US Open. He previously won the 2024 Valero Texas Open and Barracuda Championship last year. He had to fight in a play-off for both of these events. And fans have been expecting him to shine again.
With these three in the same group, do you think the pressure will be unmatched at 8:18 am this Thursday? Let us know what you feel about the pairings this 3M Open’s round one.
