Weather, will you spare the rest of the play? This question must be plaguing not just the golf enthusiasts but also the competitors who have made it to Saturday’s round after making the cutline, which was set at 6 over par after the second round at Royal Troon.

The 2024 cutline at Royal Troon is one of the highest ever. The years 1973 and 1982 witnessed the highest cut in the oldest major, at 8 over par. With the wind acting as the biggest villain in the first two rounds of this major, will the rain also come into play and continue to disrupt The Open Championship, or will moving day see a shift in fortune?

As per the weather reports, the penultimate round is not expected to see much sun. The sun is anticipated to appear for just a couple of hours between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. BST, and after that, there might be no sign of it at all. During this time, 8 mph south-southeast winds might be felt, with temperatures ranging from 58–60 °F. A little rain might fall, but the chances are slim—less than 5%.

The wind will also be a challenge for the players. Throughout the day, players will experience a constant shift in wind direction. Starting with a south-westerly wind from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. BST, at 7 mph. Followed by a west-southwest wind at the same speed for the next hour. The ways of the wind might change again in the western direction and this wind shift may carry on for the rest of the day. Although the wind gusts might not be as strong as those in the first two rounds, they will still have a speed range of 16–21 mph during the day. After competing in such adverse weather conditions, what will the top-position holders at the Royan Troon get?

Who gets the biggest slice of the prize purse at the 2024 Open Championship?
