Will Tom Kim's battle with Vegas heat derail his historic 3-peat at the Shriners Children's Open?

Rain has been a main antagonist for the PGA Tour events this season. However, it looks like with the fall season, it is the warm weather that is causing a lot of problems. To begin with the Tour’s debut event in Utah, the Black Desert Championship, there were several delays and heated weather. And now, while the weather does not predict so, there is a possibility that the players might be hindered due to the warm weather in Las Vegas. The PGA Tour has reached Nevada for the 2024 Shriners Children’s Open at the TPC Summerlin.

It is scheduled to begin on October 17 and last till October 20. According to the AccuWeather reports, the opening day will be warm with plenty of sun; windy in the afternoon.” The pairings that will tee off later on are expected to experience milder weather than the ones opening the field. The temperature on Thursday is predicted to go as high as 30 degrees and as low as 15 degrees at night.

If you are planning to witness the match live, make sure you take your umbrellas and put on your sunscreen to guard yourself from the sun. The maximum UV index too is predicted to be moderate, approximately 4, and the wind will be blowing in from the SSW at a speed of 22 km/h. While there is a 0% chance of thunderstorms, predictions state a 1% chance of precipitation, with wind gusts in intervals at a speed of 63 km/h. Now this might render it a hindrance while putting. Nonetheless, visibility too will not be an issue since cloud cover is only 9%.

While the weather of the opening round might not be worrisome, there are other three rounds to worry about. Tom Kim will be a part of the field and is looking at the historic 3-peat at the Shriners Children’s Open. Looks like he has a lot more to worry about than defending his title and it has to do with the weather.

Tom Kim’s tension lies with the heat waves

Tom Kim has grown up in South Korea. As a result, he never really had to face the dehydration that Vegas heat is known to bring in. Dry heat gets me a little off. Last two years I got sick every week because of the dry heat. I never grew up in dry heat. I was always in humidity,” the 22-year-old said at the pre-tournament presser in TPC Summerlin.

He further stated that his main concern was to stay fit throughout the whole week. All he wanted to do was give his best rather than worrying about winning the trophy. “I can remember for the whole week I never worried about trying to make more birdies. I was just thinking about plotting myself around the golf course and taking advantage of the holes you need to take advantage of,” said Kim.
