Carnoustie Championship Course is all ready to crown the Senior Open winner. After a gap of eight years, the Senior Open Championship has returned to Carnoustie Championship Course. The last two editions of the event in Carnoustie were held in 2010 and 2016, with Paul Broadhurst claiming his maiden senior Major title with a two-shot win over Scott McCarron in the latest edition.
In a field of 156 players, only 73 players and ties made the cut. You will notice all of the professional golf players getting a paycheck based on their position, and the winner will be bagging 15% of the purse.
According to Golf News Net, the winner’s share of the prize pool this season is $447,800, and the runner-up will be taking home a whopping $298,680 from the total prize pool of $2.85m. The chance to claim one of the most prestigious prizes in seniors golf has attracted many notable legends. German Bernhard Langer, who has won four Senior Open titles, will be looking to add to his tally. Four-time Major winner Ernie Els, 1999 Open champion Paul Lawrie, and three-time Major winner Vijay Singh will also be part of the event.
Former Masters champion Angel Cabrera will also compete and former World No.5 KJ Choi will also look to clinch the title. The presence of Steven Alker, who has one senior Major win among seven top-10 finishes will mean serious business. Moreover, former champion Darren Clarke, who won the event in 2022, will be joined by 2021 champion Stephen Dodd. All in all, it will be a very competitive field.
Apart from the prize money, there are other perks on offer at various stages and even more for the winner.

Although all of the professional golfers who make a cut have guaranteed paychecks, those who miss the cut will not go empty-handed. Golf News Net stated, “All professionals are paid for turning in a 36-hole scorecard. The first 20 pros to miss the cut earn $2,850. The next 20 pros earn $2,268.60, while the next 20 after that earn $1,721.40. The remaining pros to miss the cut earn $1,425.”
The winner of the 2024 Senior Open Championship will earn 447,800 Charles Schwab Cup points. Yes, such a massive boost! However, this senior major does not give any points towards the Official World Golf Ranking. Even then, the title of this Open is one of the most prestigious honors for any senior golfer.
