Sport Themen der Woche KW22 Sport Bilder des Tages Golf: Mizuho Americas Open Rose Zhang of the United States holds up the trophy after winning the Mizuho Americas Open golf tournament in her professional debut on June 4, 2023, at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey.
LPGA’s next stop is just 30 minutes from the Upper Montclair Golf Club, the venue of last week’s Cognizant Founders Cup. The Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey is now hosting (for the second consecutive year in a row) the Mizuho Americas Open.
The 120-player field will start the Mizuho Open on May 16th, which will eventually conclude after four days on May 19. And this time, Rose Zhang, who grabbed a win last week, will be competing not just for back-to-back wins this season but also for back-to-back wins at the event. But she’s going to have a tough time, no doubt!
When will the first round of the Mizuho Americas Open start?

Following the victory on the Upper Montclair greens, the 20-year-old will be playing the Mizuho Open to continue her winning run. Last year, Zhang became the first woman to win on her LPGA Tour debut in this century. The last time someone accomplished this was in 1951, when Beverly Hanson won at the Eastern Open.

On the field will also be Nelly Korda, who was attempting to make history by winning six times in a row last week. Though she couldn’t surpass the 20-year-old phenom and eventually settled for T7, Korda, she would now look forward to her sixth victory, regardless. The 13-time LPGA Tour winner will be teeing up at 7:44 a.m. with two Asian stars, Atthaya Thitikul and Ayaka Furue.
On the other hand, Zhang has been paired up with Lydia Ko, chasing the one Hall of Fame point, and Swiss pro Albane Valenzuela. The trio will start their opening round 11 minutes after Korda’s group at 7:55 a.m. At the Mizuho Americas Open, Charley Hull will be starting her seventh start of the LPGA Tour season. She missed the Founders Cup because she was playing the Aramco Team Series sanctioned by LET in Korea. At the Liberty National GC, Hull has been paired with Bailey Tardy and Leona Maguire, starting their round one at 7:44 a.m. (all-time ET).

The Mizuho Americas Open remains relatively new on the LPGA Tour, as it was inaugurated just last year and, from the looks of it, comes out to be a normal event. However, it has a unique format that aims at taking women’s golf to the next level.
The Americas event has 2 victors

Last year, the Mizuho Americas Open crowned two golfers as winners. How? While the 120-player field played the conventional 72 holes, 24 junior girls ranging in age from 12 to 19 also entered an amateur competition. These junior players tee up alongside the pros, but they will be playing according to the Stableford format for 72 holes.
Last year, the tournament host, Michelle Wie West, crowned Rose Zhang as the winner of the Mizuho Open, with Yana Wilson winning the junior division event. The runner-up in the junior event was the 2022 ANWA winner, Anna Davis. This time too, the Mizuho Americas Open will represent new faces for the empowerment of women in golf. And two will be champions! Tune in to see who that’ll be.
