One of the subplots of the 2024 season is golf tournaments vs. the weather! The women’s professional circuit had its fair share of run-ins with tumultuous weather for instance, the LPGA pros endured extremely humid conditions at the HSBC Women’s World Championship and dealt with cloudy, damp weather during the Mizuho Americas Open. The conditions at Liberty National Golf Course even irked the World No. 1 Nelly Korda, who remarked, “With so many layers on and the rain, you can get frustrated.”.

The LPGA Tour is set to kick off the 10th edition of the 2024 Meijer LPGA Classic at Blythefield Country Club in Michigan on June 13. Will the weather once again pose a problem for the LPGA pros during the first round on Thursday?

Unfortunately, there is a high chance of precipitation, according to the report. There is a 55% chance of rainfall along with a 52% probability of thunderstorms, though the rain is expected to last for 1 hour only. With a high expectation of a cloud cover ( around 67%), the first day is supposed to be humid.

If the predicted conditions persist, then the 1-hour precipitation can be a problem during the first round. Other than that, it can add to the highly predicted humidity. With this, the golf community can only hope to have better weather conditions on Thursday compared to the predicted forecast.

After having missed the third-round cut for the US Women’s Open, Korda is ready to make her comeback at the Meijer LPGA Classic. Although the world number one didn’t participate in the tournament last year, she is no stranger to winning at the Belmont-based event, having clinched the title back in 2021. The 25-year-old shared a more analytical insight regarding the course, “The greens seem a lot bouncier this year, and I just feel like it’s playing a little bit different than it was maybe compared to the other years.”

Further reflecting on the competitiveness of the field, she said, “It is the kind of golf course that even if you make a bogey, you know that, you know there’s a possibility to make a birdie on the next hole.”With the 2021 champion Nelly Korda, defending champion Leona Maguire, and two-time Meijer LPGA Classic winner Brooke Henderson teeing off together for the first round of the 2024 Meijer LPGA Classic, it will be fascinating to see how their round unfolds.
