After a successful weekend in Virginia, the LPGA Tour players are headed to Ohio this weekend. The third edition of the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P&G will kickstart on September 19 and will go on till September 22. All the top players of the LPGA Tour will be a part of the 144-player field. They will be competing for a total purse of $2 million at the TPC River’s Bend, which has officially been declared as the host of the event from this year.
From World No. 1 to the best amateur players, the field is going to be exciting. Here are some of the names that made the headlines of the 2024 edition.
1. Nelly Korda

Nelly Korda has had one of the best 2024 seasons so far. She kickstarted the year with the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions with a T16. A week later, the American professional was already lifting the trophy at the LPGA Drive On Championship. She bagged back-to-back five victories, breaking records on the Tour. Korda dropped down to a T7 at the Cognizant Founders Cup in May and quickly won the Mizuho Americas Open right after. However, the 26-year-old missed back-to-back three cuts after that. Korda last appeared at the AIG Women’s Open and bagged a T2 finish. She is looking forward to her seventh win of the season.
2. Lilia Vu
The 2024 season marked Lilia Vu’s sixth season on the LPGA Tour. Currently ranked 2nd on the Rolex World Rankings, she appeared in thirteen tournaments this year, and made cuts in eleven of them. The 26-year-old won the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give back in June. Apart from that, she also missed the trophy twice by just some strokes, finishing for a T2 at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the AIG Women’s Open. As the season is about to close, the American professional is looking forward to bagging her sixth victory on the LPGA Tour.
3. Lydia Ko
If there’s someone whose year has been as great as Nelly Korda, it definitely is going to be Lydia Ko. She kickstarted the 2024 season by bagging the gold medal at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, and a runner-up position at the LPGA Drive On Championship. However, she only had two top-10 finishes in her next twelve appearances. After the CPKC Women’s Open, where she finished with a T8, she was headed to Paris for the Olympics. After winning the bronze and silver medals in the last two editions, she finally got the gold and made her country proud. This was again the turning point for her. She even won the AIG Women’s Open last month.

4. Amy Yang
35-year-old Amy Young has begun her seventeenth season on the LPGA Tour this year. She only has six wins even after playing on the Tour for almost two decades. One of which includes her win at the 2024 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. She did not have a very great season, however, due to her consistency, the Korean golfer is ranked sixth on the Rolex World Rankings and 25th on the Race to CME Globe. This has gotten her a direct entry into the Kroger Queen City Championship in Ohio this year. Do you think she will be able to add another feather to her hat?

5. Rose Zhang
Rose Zhang has earned a total of $920.6 K this season by appearing at sixteen tournaments so far. She has made twelve cuts and bagged four top-10 finishes in total. This includes her win at the Cognizant Founders Cup, which was followed by a withdrawal from the Mizuho Americas Open and a missed cut at the US Women’s Open presented by Ally. However, last weekend at the Solheim Cup, Zhang gave a rather dominant performance which was a significant stroke in the US team winning the trophy this year. She won 28 holes and only lost eight of them. If she continues with her team momentum at the Kroger Queen City Championship, she might actually bag her third career victory on the LPGA Tour.
What is at stake for the winner at the Kroger Queen City Championship?

The event at the TPC River’s bend has a rather small purse of just $2 million. So the winner does not get to take home much in terms of money, as compared to the other events on the LPGA Tour. Last year, Minjee Lee took home $300,000 by winning the trophy.
Given that the total purse is the same as 2023, the winner is to take back the same amount as last year. The runner-up, Charley Hull got $182,127 as her prize money. The full prize money distribution of the tournament is yet to be declared. But who do you think among the 144 players will take home the title this year? Let us know in the comments section below!
