Rain at the John Deere Classic: A challenge or an opportunity for the pros to prove their mettle?

‘What’s the weather going to be like?’ This is undoubtedly the question that comes to mind ahead of any golf event! This year, bad weather has spared neither the men’s circuit nor the women’s circuit. The WM Phoenix Open, Puerto Rico Open, and AT&T Pebble Beach are just some of the tournaments that have faced the rage of the weather gods.

Now, the next PGA Tour event, the 2024 John Deere Classic, is here. The TPC Deere Run golf course will host the tournament from July 7 to 10 in Illinois, and it seems like the weather will once again be an issue!

According to weather reports, the Thursday round may encounter bad weather. The morning temperature is likely to rise as high as 84.2F and drop as low as 78.8F. With a high humidity of 80%, there will be a slight south-west wind blowing at 5.6 mph. There are also chances that there will be a thick cloud cover (95%) on Thursday morning, with a high precipitation probability of 70%.

In the afternoon, one can expect a slight increase in the maximum and minimum temperatures (87.8F and 82.4F). On the other hand, one will feel almost the same level of humidity (74%). The cloud cover and precipitation predictabilities are also expected to be the same as in the morning, at 95% and 70%, respectively; however, the wind might change its direction and flow from the south at a pace of 6.83 mph.

Weather forecasts predict late-day weather similar to the morning and afternoon. The same fast-paced southern breeze is expected; however, one might feel a significant dip in the average temperature (69.8F). The cloud cover is expected to be exactly the same, with a slight decrease in the chances of precipitation by 5% as compared to the afternoon.

Throughout the day, there is also a 31% probability of thunderstorms. Hence, bad weather is likely to disrupt the first-round play of the 2024 John Deere Classic if the predicted conditions persist. Fortunately, those who choose to watch the event from home may only have to deal with the delay, not the physical wrath of the weather.

How can fans enjoy the 2024 John Deere Classic without going to the golf course?
