The Renaissance Club is about to witness tussling between some of the most talented golfers. Scheduled only a week ahead of the last major of the season, the Genesis Scottish Open is, however, missing some anticipated names such as the world apex golfer, Scottie Scheffler. But wait, there’s one name that you cannot miss. Rory McIlroy is returning as the defending champion after his gut-wrenching slip-up by one stroke at the US Open.
Kickstarting on July 11th, the Scottish Open’s tee timings and pairs have already been made public. The Taiwanese golfer who turned pro in 2021, Kevin Yu, will be inaugurating the event. Along with him is the 32-year-old Canadian golfer who finished T10 at the Italian Open, Aaron Cockerill. This duo will also have Italian Challenge Open winner Hurly Long teeing off with them at 7 a.m. sharp on the first tee.
At the 10th tee, Andrew Putnam, Joost Luiten, and Callum Shinkwin will be present. Earlier this season, Putnam finished T8 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational with a 4-under final score. Joost Luiten, on the other hand, has just won a legal case against the Dutch Olympic Committee after the latter unjustly declined his Olympic participation. Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Open winner, English golfer Shinkwin, will also be present at 7 a.m. along with his group.

Notable players that are paired together
The 2024 PGA Championship winner, Xander Schauffele, is in the same group as the OWGR 5th-ranked Wyndham Clark and Tommy Fleetwood. Fleetwood has not yet won a single PGA Tour event. However, he got a huge motivation boost to win on his home soil. Wyndham Clark had missed two back-to-back cuts in the PGA Championship and the Memorial Tournament. However, his latest performance in the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands gave him a T9 finish. The group will be present at the 10th tee and begin their first round at 8:39 p.m..

The 10th tee will also witness the RBC Canadian Open winner, Robert MacIntyre, next to the legendary defending champion, Rory McIlroy. Last season, MacIntyre was only a stroke behind McIlroy. He shared a similar feeling that McIlroy experienced at the US Open. Thus, the young Scottish golfer will try his best to win this year, and get this second PGA Tour win. The Norwegian professional golfer Viktor Hovland, who ranks 7th in OWGR at the moment, will also join the group.
Ludvig Aberg, Hideki Matsuyama, and Collin Morikawa are yet another powerhouse group. Aberg was the runner-up in this season’s Masters tournament. The 24-year-old young golfer turned professional only last year, yet he ranks 4th in OWGR. The 2021 Masters Tournament winner, Japanese golfer Hideki Matsuyama, will be joining him. On top of that, the sensational runner-up of the 2024 Memorial Tournament and a two-time Major Championship winner, Collin Morikawa will be the one to lookout for!
