In 2023, the four-time major championships winner McIlroy triumphed with his third title at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, showcasing remarkable skill off the tee. Now, in the 2024 tournament, he began his title defense from the 10th tee in the opening round. As he gears up for the second round, McIlroy is set to tee off from the 1st tee at 12:30 pm.

For the second round, the DP World Tour Champion winner Hojgaard secures the 6th position on the leaderboard with an Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) of 53. Simultaneously, Adam Scott holds the 14th position on the leaderboard with an OWGR of 49. The U.S. Open winner McIlroy, positioned 36th on the leaderboard and positioned 2nd in the OWGR, gears up for the next 18 holes. These rankings intensify the competitive mix among the players.

In the upcoming second round, Rory McIlroy, three times DP World Tour titles winner Hojgaard, and Adam Scott will tee off simultaneously. Notably, Rory won’t be paired with Fleetwood this year, heightening the competition following Tommy Fleetwood’s recent triumph over Rory McIlroy in the Dubai Invitational last week.

China’s Li Haotong Soars While Rory McIlroy Fails to Shine

Li Haotong, a past champion in 2018, has a storied history at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. Notably, the DP World Tour winner secured victory in 2018, where the Chinese golfer held off Rory McIlroy, who finished solo second that year. In the current edition of the tournament, Li Haotong has dominated the leaderboard, clinching the 1st position with an Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) of 476. This achievement adds another chapter to his success in the DP World Tour Hero Dubai Championship 2024.

Li Haotong kicked off the 1 round of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic 2024 impressively with a 5-under par 67. He emphasized, “I played just solid as last week. I’ve been working on a lot of stuff during the wintertime and see some result like this, kind of like slowly pay back now.” Reflecting on his past triumph in 2018 against Rory McIlroy, he noted, “It’s just had a lot of great memories, and hopefully I can continue to do some magic here.” Despite being challenged in 2023, especially off the tee, Haotong expressed satisfaction and said, “Finally happy to see that and hopefully I can maintain that and improve that.”  Haotong’s insights reveal a resilient mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement.
