Only 66 players remain at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson after the 36-hole cut was carried out. Among those who missed the cut, the hometown’s favorite is Jordan Spieth. He missed his sixth cut of the season. Although he was the highest-ranked golfer in the field, the disappointing exit of the 3-time PGA Tour winner can be attributed to his wrist injury. Nonetheless, Spieth is out of the winner’s circuit and out of the race for the $9.5 million total prize purse.
From the hefty purse, the winner will be getting the usual 18% cut, which comes out to be $1.71 million. The runner-up will also bag a million-dollar home—to be exact, $1.035 million. Additionally, there are also 500 FedExCup points awarded to the winner. The Official World Golf Ranking System will be giving away 42.31953 to the winner of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. There are surely many things up for grabs for the 64 players.

After the second round ended, many things were of notice at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. From an amateur player making history to the rookie chasing his second win in the 2024 season, here’s everything that happened at TPC Craig Ranch.
Storylines at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson after 36 holes
Undoubtedly, Jordan Spieth missing the cut was the headline of the event. However, Kris Kim’s making it to the weekend was also another highlight. Kim became the fifth youngest player on the PGA Tour to pass the cutline after Kyle Suppa did so at the 2015 Sony Open in Hawaii. Surprisingly, Spieth held the record for being the youngest golfer ever at 16 to make the cut. It happened at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson itself. Ironically, it has now been broken by Kim at the age of 15 years, 7 months, and 3 days.

Even the fans called out the irony as they criticized Spieth’s gameplay. Another pro who was on the verge of missing the cut was the defending champion, Jason Day. However, Day barely met the 6 under cutline as he stopped making bogeys or birdies after his mishap at the par-3 15th hole and entered the weekend rounds.
On the opposite end, the lead after two rounds was taken by 2024 Mexico Open winner Jake Knapp. He shot two consecutive rounds of 7 under 64 to lead the field with three strokes. It will be his second victory on the PGA Tour, and that too in his rookie season. Knapp is surely aiming for the season-ending Rookie Player of the Year Award. Things have been hectic at TPC Craig Ranch, but one shall come out as the winner and take the $1.71 million home! Who do you think it will be? Tell us your picks in the comments below.
