The PGA Tour can’t seem to catch a break in the 2024 season! There have been several weather woes this year which have exasperated the golfers and the fans, but somehow they are non-negotiable and one thing the PGA Tour can’t seem to get rid of. Just a week ago, at the Worldwide Technology Championship, the first round was suspended at El Cardonal in Diamante due to darkness.
Now, as the 120 golfers take on the Port Royal Golf Course challenge in Southampton, Bermuda, another suspension awaited them. The first round of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship was suspended because of darkness at 5:19 p.m. local time or 4:19 p.m. ET. The sudden halt left 21 golfers remaining to finish their first round. They will continue it on Friday at 7:00 a.m. local time, as the second round will start at that time, too. Will the clouds become a villain on Friday as well?
The temperature will be moderate in the morning at about 69° F with the sunrise at 6:52 a.m. Surprisingly, the PGA Tour pros will be struggling a bit in the morning too, as they continue round 1 and start the second round because it will be cloudy according to the weather report. However, as the day passes, the cloud will give way to clearer skies with no precipitation forecast. The wind will be high from the North at 10 to 15 mph.

The sun will set at 5:21 p.m. local time, so there is a chance that it may be suspended due to darkness once again despite the Friday round initiated at the right time. While the PGA Tour tackles the darkness and unexpected water conditions at the Port Royal Golf Course, the situation on the other side of the game is not great either.
LPGA joins Butterfield Bermuda Championship with weather woes
The Butterfield Bermuda Championship is the penultimate fall event, and like that, the ANNIKA Driven by Gainbridge, played at the Pelican Golf Club in Bellaire, Florida, is also the second-last event before the LPGA Tour’s season concludes at the CME Group Tour Championship in Naples. Unlike the PGA Tour, there have not been many round suspensions or Monday finishes on the women’s circuit this year.

But the ANNIKA Driven was not so fortunate. Round one had to be suspended because of darkness at 5:48 p.m. ET and will continue at 7:30 a.m. ET on Friday. Six players who couldn’t finish their opening round will be divided into two groups, one will resume the round at the 9th tee while the other will be at the 18th. The second round will start on time at 7:00 a.m. ET.
The forecast reports that Friday at Pelican Golf Club will be pleasant and mostly sunny. But the issue is that the sun will set at 5:38 p.m. ET and the darkness may linger to push another round of suspension as golfers cannot see properly with no sun. Regardless, the PGA and LPGA Tour will try to conclude round 2 on time and with the 36-hole cut, start round 3 without any delay.
