Are the hefty payouts at the BMW International Open enough to attract the world's top golfing talent?

The DP World Tour has moved to the Golfclub München Eichenried, Munich, Germany. The 2024 BMW International Open which began on July 4, will conclude the European swing. The 2024 edition of the event is the 27th time that Golf Club München Eichenried has played host to the highly coveted event, and this year marks the 35th year of BMW contributing to the golf world. Let’s take a look at how much prize money is at stake at the event.

In the past, the likes of Henrik Stenson, Ernie Els, John Daly, Colin Montgomerie, and Viktor Hovland have been crowned winners at the event. The tournament started in 1989 and since 2012, it has been hosted in Munich. Last year saw South African Thriston Lawrence win by a shot over  Dutch pro Joost Luiten and claim the winning amount of  $340,000 from the $2m purse. However, the stakes are higher this time around.

At the BMW International Open 2024, 155 players started competing for the increased purse of $2.5 million. After the second round, the field has been cut into less than half, precisely 65 players who made the cut will get a share of the prize money. Players are also vying for top spots in the distinct European Swing leaderboard, where the leader at the end of this tournament will earn an additional $200,000.

Earlier this year, Reed finished at T12 in the Masters and even in the BMW International Open, after the conclusion of the second round, he’s at T3. The nine-time PGA Tour is looking good with a score of 8-under 136, and if things keep going his way, we might see him win.

Reed is joined by the German golfer and the two-time major winner, Martin Kaymer, who is also a former world number one. Other prominent names in the field include some Ryder Cup winners, including the two-time winner Miguel Angel Jimenez, the one-time winner Thomas Pieters, and Luke Donald who will be leading Team Europe in the upcoming Ryder Cup.
