Rory McIlroy’s decision to skip the 2025 Sentry Tournament of Champions has definitely got fans talking. Given his status as one of the biggest names in golf, his absence from such a high-profile event stands out. While he’s not obligated to play in every tournament, it’s always a little surprising when he’s not in the field. So why is he passing on this one? The reason seems to be McIlroy’s general lack of excitement for Hawaii. Coming from Northern Ireland, the tropical vibe of Hawaii is pretty far from what he’s used to. McIlroy has mentioned before that he prefers to kick off his season somewhere a bit more familiar.

In the past, McIlroy has expressed a preference for starting his season in locations that feel more like home. “I’d say my schedule will look pretty much the same as it did this year. I’m not a huge Hawaii guy, so I’ll probably skip it,” he shared. Well, it was evident that the Aloha State did not make a great season opener for him. But the question is, after the absence in the first Signature event of the season, will he appear in the field for the next one?

After The Sentry wraps up on Sunday, the next big event on the PGA Tour calendar is the Sony Open, also in Hawaii. But despite the big prizes on offer, Rory

McIlroy won’t be taking part. While he hasn’t given a specific reason, it is assumably the location for this case too, as he mentioned earlier. His name is also not there on the list of the confirmed field of the Sony Open for the coming week.

But the question is, if not the Sony Open, when will the PGA Tour pro make a comeback for the season on the Tour?

Rory McIlroy will begin the 2025 season with the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Rory McIlroy is sticking to his usual routine of starting and ending the season on the DP World Tour instead of the PGA Tour. Just like in previous years, he’ll kick off his 2025 season at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on January 16, where he’ll be returning as the defending champion.

He will kick start the season on the Tour from January 30 to February 2 with the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He has to make a lot of improvements in his game for the event at the Pebble Besch Golf Links. Last year, he finished at a T66 defeating Adrian Meronk by a close one stroke, with a disappointing 2-under. After that, in all probability, he will be appearing in all the other events on the Tour.

Do you think Rory McIlroy will be able to improve his gameplay for the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am? Stay tuned to find out!
