The Investec South African Open is currently kicking off at the Royal Durban Golf Course. Now in its 114th year, the tour features 156 pro golfers and offers numerous awards for its winners. However, let’s first take a quick look at the names leading the leaderboard. Currently, the 3rd round is underway. While you get ready for the third day’s thrilling actions, here’s a look at the round 2 results. Shaun Norris is leading the competition at -14. Dylan Naidoo and Sam Bairstow closely follow him, as they are currently tied at -13. Interestingly, five of the top 10 players are South African. Interestingly, all the last 6 winners of this tour are all homegrown. If everything goes well, it is likely the Durban crowd will have another reason to celebrate at the end of the week!
So, does it look like the trophy will stay on the continent? Well, that’s likely. How about the awards that the tour will offer to its top contenders? Along with a whopping purse of $1.5 million, the tour will introduce a $100k Order of Merit prize that will run throughout the DP World Tour’s first season. Additionally, the leaders in this merit will receive an invitation to the first Rolex event of the following season!
That means the stakes are high. This year’s champion will take home $250,000, just like Dean Burmester did last year. However, it will come with 3,000 Race to Dubai points! Sounds exciting? While the 2nd placed golfer will take home $165,000, the last one (70th) will have $2,850! With that out of the way, let’s take a look at the complete breakdown of the purse!
