Whether Tiger Woods holds a club ever again is up in the air; only he can tell that. But the legacy he has left on the sport is next to impossible for current golfers. The 15-time major championship winner has been credited with popularizing the game worldwide, thanks to his incredible golf career.
However, his trophy-laden career shadows Woods’ stupendous amateur days. The talented golfer grabbed all the attention during his stunning rise to the top, but it looks like someone is poaching into the legend’s earliest records.

The young golfer everyone’s gushing about is women’s amateur Rose Zhang. Still only 19, the Rose has made considerable headway in her youthful career. Her list of records is seemingly unparalleled, but one of them stands out – one in which she equaled none other than Tiger Woods himself.
Zhang recently participated in the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship, where she secured a record-setting victory. She shot scores of 64, 68, and 65 in the 54-hole event to finish with nineteen-under par. Impressively, it set the record for the best competition score in the program’s history, a massive three strokes clear of the previous holder.
However, the win had greater implications for Zhang’s glittering records. The NCAA Women’s Golf Championship victory marked her eleventh win in her 19th start to an event. Per Sports Illustrated, she is the fastest to the feat and now rubs shoulders with golf legend Tiger Woods, who clinched the same amount of victories in 26 events, the last of which came back in 1996.

The recently concluded NCAA Women’s Golf Championship held more in store for the young golfer. While she won the individual event, Zhang, a Stanford sophomore, helped her Cardinal team win at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman.
Apart from her recent triumphs, Zhang competed at the 2019 Pan American Games, where she and her team clinched the gold medal. The talented teenager also won the 2020 U.S. Women’s Amateur, which turned into her breakthrough victory.
