Will McGee is playing for the second time at the PNC Championship alongside his mother and LPGA icon Annika Sörenstam. The mother and son are finding their way through a tough player’s field and the unwanted weather conditions.

However, through it all, McGee has already made an ace in the first round at the PNC Championship. After seeing the magnificent performance by Team Sorenstam, one might believe that the duo were the most confident of the lot. However, Sorenstam’s recent confession reveals the ‘nervousness’ they felt and how they sailed through the harsh weather.

Team Sorenstam rides through nervousness and achieves a big feat

Annika Sorenstam is the only mother in the field of PNC Championship as she is playing with her son, Will McGee. The mother/son duo had a great start in the first round. The duo stands T7th on the leaderboard with 10 under 62 after sailing through tough weather and calming their nerves before the play.

Although it is the 2nd appearance of Team Sorenstam, the mother bird revealed the reason for their nervousness in the post-match conference. Sorenstam said, “We are both a little nervous. Last year we just didn’t really know what to expect, and I thought we did quite well last year.”

Furthermore, the 72x LPGA Tour winner explained that despite being well-seasoned with the event after the first experience, they are “a little nervous” because the expectation has risen for them. However, the nervousness is surrounded by a bit more comfort and confidence in the team.

Mama Bird expressed that with a pinch of nerves ticking, McGee’s improved game was a blessing. She explained the pre-match plan of the duo and how they envisioned the round to go. However, there stood an enormous obstacle in front of them, Florida’s unprecedented weather. But Sorenstam was prepared to teach her son how to win against the weather.

The weather was ruthless in the PNC Championship. Right before the commencement of the tournament, there were reports of expected thunderstorms. Nevertheless, the play was not disrupted by the weather, however, there was a drizzle that made the greens wet. Since McGee is still an amateur player, the wet greens posed a new challenge for the young golfer, but Sorenstam had a solution for it.

Coming to the opening round of the PNC Championship, the mother and son duo had planned their outing and how they would play. Sorenstam recounted, “Last night, we were just talking about the round and we were just feeling so good about it,” they were confident.

Moreover, the parents gave one piece of advice to McGee to survive through the weather. They asked him to “just be a mudder,” and face the wet course just like his mother did, and at last, the duo “did quite well today,” as Sorenstam stated. After the first round, Team Sorenstam is 5 strokes away from the lead. Coming to the final round, will McGee and Sorenstam showcase another ace and the take team to the winning podium?
