Robert MacIntyre had just won the 2024 RBC Canadian Open. With his father Dougie, as his caddie, the golfer has won millions of hearts after his win as he was reported as a family guy. After his maiden Tour win, he automatically qualified for the Jack Nicklaus’s Memorial Tournament at Muirfield, and the US Open at Pinehurst. But as per the latest reports, the golfer has just withdrawn from the Memorial Tournament that is kick-starting from June 6th.

With a purse value of $20,000,000, the Memorial Tournament is one of the finest Signature events. The winner would have a chance to go home with a prize money of $3.6 million from the tournament. PGA Tour communication’s official X handle dropped shocking news. They wrote, “Robert MacIntyre WD from the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday.” In his place, Davis Thompson would be taking up the spot.

Flushing it on X announced the probable reason for his withdrawal. They wrote, “As he promised in his presser, Robert MacIntyre has WD from the Memorial and is returning home to celebrate his Canadian Open win. He’s about to have a proper sesh!” The golfer revealed that he wishes to fly to Scotland with his girlfriend to celebrate his win, as it is a pretty big deal.

Following his win, MacIntyre explained how he is glad that he does not have to play in golf’s longest day to qualify for the US Open anymore. He said, “I was planning to do the U.S. Open qualifier tomorrow [Monday], 36 holes with my dad on the bag. Thankfully, that’s off the cards.” The Scottish golfer loves to spend time with his family and did so during the Masters for three weeks because he wasn’t invited to Augusta.

He also flew his mom from Scotland when he was competing at the PGA Championship, and now he will tee off at Pinehurst after probably a weeklong break, and fans may see his family again on the greens cheering him on. Let us see what fans had to say about the golfer’s shocking decision.

What do fans think of this abrupt WD by Robert MacIntyre?

One of the fans wrote, “Mans got his priorities straight.” Right after his win at the Canadian Open, Robert MacIntyre went viral for a clip of him talking to his mother Carol and sister Nicole over a video call. There, MacIntyre was seen telling his mother that she would be seeing Dougie, his father, this Monday. Now it seems that the golfer’s mother might just be seeing him, and chances are he could be flying home to Oban.

Another fan commented, “Lmao dude is turning down a guaranteed payday and shot at $3.6 million when he’s golfing the best he’s ever golfed? Woof.” It is shocking for the community to see a player in as good form as Robert MacIntyre right now turn down an offer where he was assured of a huge paycheck. Moreover, his promises to pay off the mortgage stirred the community to a great extent, and now that he misses a shot at the winning prize of $3.6 million, the fandom is astounded by his decision.

One other fan wrote, “I respect this. Time to party.” Many golfers often get backlash for withdrawing from games that their fans anticipate watching them play. However, Robert MacIntyre fans are extremely supportive of his decision. The RBC Canadian Open being his first PGA Tour win in his first year as a full-time PGA Tour player requires celebration and some relaxation for the golfer.

Yet another fan stated, “Bobby Mac wanted to go back to the homeland and party instead of playing Memorial.” His confessions about missing his family and the viral video where he is seen talking to his mother and sister drew much attention to his desire to be with his family. And hence, fans are speculating that Robert MacIntyre might want to visit his family instead of picking up the golf club again this week. Ever since shifting to the States full-time for a successful tour career, the golfer has had very few trips home and has been missing it; hence, this decision is indeed an apt one!

A fan recognized the need for the rest. They commented, “Played for the last 5 weeks. A week off before Pinehurst is sensible.” With the third major of the season, the US Open, commencing on June 13th–16th at Pinehurst No. 2, it makes sense for the fans to see MacIntyre’s withdrawal. From the CJ Cup Byron Nelson to the Charles Schwab Challange before the Canadian Open, Robert MacIntyre has been playing non-stop. A little break before the big game might prove to be beneficial in the end, and hence fans are supportive of his decision.
