Should Tom Kim be disqualified for his actions, or is this being blown out of proportion?

The St. Jude Championship has been the talk of the town for a while now and for all the wrong reasons. Earlier, fans couldn’t stop talking about Jordan Spieth’s declining gameplay, then it was the heatwave and now Tom Kim is in the spotlight. But why? Well, the fans are calling out the golfer for his lack of control over his anger. Confused much? Well, we have the explanation!

In a recent video posted by No Laying Up’s host, Tron Carter, on his X account, the golfer was seen getting angry. In the video posted by Carter, fans could see the frustration getting the best of the golfer when he let out a mighty slam of his putter on the green. The worst part was that he left the greens damaged without any care. The post’s caption read, “Young Tom Kim continues to disappoint with dismal behavior and abhorrent pace of play. Bad!”

Kim got frustrated on the 12th hole when he missed a short putt that could have been a birdie. Hence, he had to settle for a par. He slammed his putter on the green, making a dent. He didn’t fix it and simply walked away. This was the start of a bad stretch for Kim, who finished with three bad holes: bogey, double bogey, and double bogey. Now, he has finished the game with a score of one over par at the 51st position.

Fans can be utterly unforgivable when it comes to player’s declining gameplay and their anger. We all know that Tyler Hatton is pretty popular in the golf industry for being an angry golfer. Everybody remembers Hatton’s 2021 Open Championship meltdown where the golfer broke the club in half over a poor score, but it seems like nobody expected damage of the course from Kim. A frustrated golf fan was disgusted with what went down on the greens and wrote, “How the hell isn’t this a DQ, TC?”. Fans are very particular in how a golfer should behave on the greens and how were shocked by Kim’s display of poor sportsmanship.

Fans were voting for Kim to get disqualified from the game. One fan said, “Golf needs a shot clock so we can get people like this out of the game asap!”. As per the R&A Code of Conduct, players who damage the course or equipment on purpose can be disqualified from the game. This includes things like hitting the tee box with a driver in anger. If a player does this and doesn’t stop after being warned, they can be kicked out of the game. Another fan commented, “DQ him..”

Adding fuel to the fire, another fan commented, “Should be kicked off the tour for this! Disgusting behavior from a professional!” It seems like the fans are pretty disappointed this time. What do you think? Should Kim be disqualified for this? Let us know in the comment section below!
