Woods has been an inspiration for DeChambeau during his early years playing golf. The golf “hulk” once felt lucky to play in a practice round with Tiger Woods. However, DeChambeau has now played several matches with the golfer and once expressed frustration for a similar reason to Woods.

Woods and DeChambeau were in the post-game interview after their first round at the Memorial. Both the players along with Justin Rose were warned for their slow pace of play, and were even timed for “most of the back nine,”. Expressing how being timed made it difficult for them to play, Woods said “We’re trying to either tap out or take a while to mark the golf ball to help the other players…it’s a group effort to try to get back in position.”

He said“We’ve had struggles the past three holes in a row, hazards and making bogeys and all that…“It’s a bit unfair when you’ve got someone that’s behind you”. Woods ended his game with two under 70 for the round. DeChambeau shot two-over 74 in the final round.
