‘Transcend This Game’: Tiger Woods’ Father, Earl Woods Once Got Emotional While Expressing Pride for His Son’s Impact in the World

Not a lot is stronger than a father-son bond. While many athletes boast of a close relationship with their fathers, others lack such a relationship. Fortunately for Tiger Woods, he was part of the first and shared an incredibly meaningful bond with his father, Earl Woods. Earl once even teared up while expressing his pride about his son’s humanitarian achievements.

The 15-time Major winner’s list of achievements seems never-ending. In over 27 years in the sport, he has changed the game completely. His name has become synonymous with golf, and the legend continues to grow the game in any way he possibly can.

Earl gets emotional about Tiger’s potential to inspire change

Woods’ father, Earl, was his inspiration in golf. They shared a lot of close moments on the course, and Earl beamed with pride at every mention of Tiger. The documentary that HBO released about Woods in 2021, called Tiger, included footage of Earl opening up about the pride he felt for his son before he passed away in 2006. 

“Please forgive me, but sometimes I get very emotional when I talk about my son,” he said as per Rolling Stone in 2021. With a lump in his throat, Earl added, “My heart fills with so much joy when I realize that this young man is going to help so many people.” The proud father could not comprehend how influential and huge his son had grown.

He knew that Woods would go on to touch the lives of millions around the world. Earl stated that he was certain his son would change the course of the game of golf. While doing so, he would also help others grow. He said, “He will transcend this game and bring to the world a humanitarianism that has never been known before.”

His father believed that Tiger Woods would change the world for the better

In the documentary, Earl also explained that he believes Tiger has what it takes to lead millions. The 82-time PGA Tour winner’s father was sure that his son would change the world for the better with his presence. He said, “The world will be a better place to live in by virtue of his existence and his presence.”

And the younger Woods did change the lives of countless people. Just with his charismatic persona, he has inspired many to follow their dreams. His resolve and passion for golf make him an ideal idol for anyone trying to never give up.
