Does Scottie Scheffler need to watch his back with friends like Sam Burns around?

Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns have been the closest buddies on the Tour! From being road roommates to practice round partners, and of course, enjoying Bible studies on the PGA Tour together, their camaraderie is filled with fun and banter. While Scottie Scheffler, after 36 holes, is on a mission to secure a historic win at the Tour Championship, Sam Burns is in seventh position, ten strokes behind the American professional.

However, this does not stop Burns from roasting his best friend. Scheffler went completely bogey-free during Friday’s round, except for a slip-up on the 13th hole, where he bogeyed after shanking his wedge into the green bunker. Burns had the perfect reaction, saying on the mic, “This guy’s terrible,” with Kevin Kisner and Smylie Kaufman by his side.

This left everyone who heard it bursting out in laughter on the course. Several golf pages, including the official Instagram handle of the PGA Tour, shared the video. As a caption, they even wrote, “Live commentary from @SamBurns66 😆”.

But after finishing his round, Burns was more realistic. “I need to make a lot of birdies. He’s the best golfer on the planet. He’s good with leads. It’s not a great thing for us,” he said.

Have an interesting take?

Sam Burns and Scottie Scheffler never fail to give the camera a wholesome laugh with their friendship goals. Take the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge, for instance. The duo was paired together in a featured group during the round. Players often throw divots back so the caddies can quickly fix the ground. However, when Burns threw one, it was far from smooth or accurate, making the moment quite amusing.

While Sam Burns was up to his usual mischief, Scottie Scheffler asked if the camera had captured it. This hints that Burns is the one who is always cracking jokes, while Scheffler is the comparatively calmer one. Reflecting on the current incident and their friendship, one fan wrote, “Just what friends do! Well done!” Another, taking to Sam Burns’ crazy humor, simply commented, “Burns awesome”.

Burns’ commentary, especially when he had the mic, added a fun element to the event. It was a refreshing change compared to the more serious commentary typically heard during matches. This left the golf community enjoying his commentary, with people commenting things like, “More of this,” and “If the PGA could have it like this… EPIC!!!”

Well, it was not just Sam Burns who captured the attention of fans. Kevin Kisner and Smylie Kaufman also made the moment better. The duo is already known for their fun commentary. Back in February, NBC Sports set them up a few yards from the 16th tee box at the WM Phoenix Open, where they provided commentary that felt more like joining a fanfare. They not only praised good shots but humorously booed the bad ones.

This approach was refreshing for the audience, and the same was true at the Tour Championship. Reflecting on this, one fan even complimented Kisner, saying, “Kiz needs to always be on the mic.”
