LIV Golf Adelaide concluded with HyFlyer GC’s Brendan Steele getting his maiden victory for himself. The event had a different aura around it, and it was like one big party with many classic fan-centric moments and, of course, the tradition of Shoey. It can be said that it was a successful event for LIV Golf. And the CEO, Greg Norman, also shared his delight with the success.

In a conversation with Golf Digest Australia, the 69-year-old talked about the prejudice people had about LIV Golf. He said, “Vindication is not the right word. It’s the ignorance of others who simply didn’t understand what we were trying to do.” He felt sorry for those who misunderstood the rebel league and were now finding its true value. He also claimed that people wanted to be part of it, and more of it came from Australia.

Norman recalled his professional days and how the Aussies gave him so much love. That admiration became one reason the spearhead of LIV wanted to bring golf to Australia. As they supported LIV Golf Adelaide too, Norman felt proud of his decisions and expressed, “With what we’ve (LIV Golf) gone through over the past 16 months, both as a league and what I’ve copped personally… the hatred… this makes it all worthwhile.”

Many in the golf world did not tolerate this side of Norman celebrating LIV Golf Adelaide and its success. Quite apparently, he had to endure the ridicule of the netizens disagreeing with his success claims.

Netizens mock Greg Norman’s LIV success claims

When Greg Norman believed that Australians were interested in LIV Golf Adelaide due to the unique format and the fact that golf had been brought to the Land Down Under, this fan believed that the booze was the sole attraction for the Aussies. They took a dig at the Australian’s drinking habit, and it is the reason they watched LIV Golf Adelaide say, “Most Aussies would attend the opening of an envelope if it offered the opportunity for public drunkenness; don’t flatter yourself Greg.”

When Norman said the whole dialogue of LIV Golf being valued late and now people understanding its actual worth, it sounded truly seasoned coming from the CEO, it was not so for this user. They used only five words to degrade Norman’s statement, saying, “All bullshit coming from Greg.”

Through a sarcastic and brutal question, one fan asked if what they were reading was true. They explained that LIV and Norman are very similar because they share the same toxic traits. The comments state, “The toxic narcissist waste dump feels sorry for others for not understanding? Right on par for LIV and Norman.”

Was LIV Golf Adelaide an official and professional golf event? Yes. Did this fan find that it was not? Also, yes. According to this user, people watched LIV Golf Adelaide just because it was not a serious game. They explained without trying to offend anyone, “He hosted a party, and golfers were playing around it. Don’t get me wrong I’m sure it is a fun event, but probably 10% of the people are there for the golf.”

This week, two team events occurred simultaneously. While the LIV golfers were performing in Australia individually and with their team, the PGA Tour also had the Zurich Classic going on. So, Norman’s claim of team events thriving might not be false. However, this user didn’t agree that it applied to LIV Golf Adelaide. Disparagingly, they said, “Team golf is alive and well. I bet less than 5% new [knew] the team scores or even cared.”
