A tourist's death at a golf course—accident or something more sinister? What's your take?

The chances of someone getting injured by a golf ball are minimal but never zero. The golf world recently witnessed something devasting that has left the spectators shocked to their core. On September 28, 2024, it was reported that a 61-year-old British tourist lost their life after suffering a fatal head injury at Son Muntaner Golf Course in Majorca. The incident was as heartbreaking as it sounds, and the whole community was left saddened by the news.

The reports suggested the tourist was hit by a golf ball; however, authorities now believe he likely suffered a heart attack before falling. “Everything is pointing to the death being from natural causes. It appears he suffered some cardiac episode before the fall,”  said a spokesperson from the National Police in the Majorcan capital Palma, per GB News. The name of the deceased has not been revealed to protect their privacy. The horrifying incident took place on Friday around 8 p.m. when the tourist got separated from his friends while searching for a stray ball. His friends kept looking for him for quite a while only to find him unconscious with severe head injuries.

The whole golf community was heartbroken to find out that despite 30 minutes of attempted resuscitation and emergency services’ best efforts, the tourist couldn’t be saved. The local authorities of Majorcan and the National Police Homicide Unit are currently investigating the whole incident, and an autopsy is scheduled for this weekend, which will tell the exact cause of death.
