The TOUR Championship is renowned for its suspense and improbable results. The battle is expected to be intense from the beginning to the end because there are only 30 participants on the field, and the starting scores create a level playing field.

Even the most seasoned professionals will have their skills and nerves put to the test at the famed East Lake Golf Club due to its difficult layout. In order to defend his championship, Rory McIlroy, who won the 2022 TOUR Championship, will return to the greens with his eyes set on a win. McIlroy’s victory the previous year was evidence of his talent and poise under pressure.

The tournament’s special format, in which each player starts with a fixed score based on their FedExCup standings, heightens the tension and intrigue. The power rankings i.e. the top five candidates speculated to win and their starting scores are shown below:

  • Scottie Scheffler: With a starting score of -10, the current leader in the FedEx Points Ranking takes the lead. Scheffler is the one to beat because of his amazing performance this season.
  • Viktor Hovland: With a score of -8 to start, Hovland is definitely in the running to beat Scheffler. Because of how often and well he plays, he stays in the top 5 of the FedEx Points Rankings.
  • Rory McIlroy: McIlroy comes back to East Lake with a score of -7 because he won the TOUR Championship last year. He has been in the running for the title before, so he knows what it takes to do it again.
  • Jon Rahm: Rahm is not far behind the leads after starting at -6. He poses a constant threat thanks to his exceptional ball-striking skills and mental toughness.
  • Lucas Glover: Glover, who has a starting score of -5, completes the top five. He has gained a place among the elites as a result of his incredible comeback season, and he is prepared to leave his mark.

The PGA Tour will keep the FedEx Cup Starting Strokes. This is a system that was started in 2019 and gives the top-ranked golfer a 10-under score edge at the start of the Tour Championship.

The TOUR Championship is well-known for its enormous payouts, and this year is no exception. The greatest first-place reward in golf history, an astounding $18 million, will be awarded to the event’s victor.

The course, which was originally designed by the illustrious Donald Ross, received a substantial restoration in 2016 under Rees Jones’ direction. But following this competition, Andrew Green plans to carry out a “sympathetic renovation,” hoping to revive the golf course’s essential Donald Ross features.

Notably, driving accuracy has become one of East Lake’s top predictors of success. The significance of hitting fairways cannot be emphasized, despite the fact that the course is not one of the most difficult on the PGA Tour.

The traditional tree-lined course at East Lake Golf Club exudes vintage charm. It rewards golfers who have good ball-striking abilities and display accuracy with their irons in particular. Additionally, success will be largely determined by statistics relating to scrambling and the capacity for recovery, as less than 50% of greens are reached by players who miss fairways.
