With the Tour Championship approaching, all eyes are on who is going to bag the coveted FedEx Cup this year. The tournament has a peculiar format where most players will start with an under-par score instead of an even par. The current ‘leader’ of the leaderboard, Scottie Scheffler, has joked about this format a few times before, and his amusement about the format doesn’t seem to drop at all.
In a press conference, prior to the Tour Championship, the 27-year-old reiterated his thoughts on the format and also touched upon the matter of PGA Tour governance. He spoke about how he will probably hide from the press for most of the fall. Let’s get into what he had to say ahead of the final playoff for the FedEx Cup.

Scottie Scheffler is not a big fan of the FedEx Cup’s format. He had expressed how this isn’t a great way to identify the best golfer of the year. In an interview with ESPN, he even spoke about how Jon Rahm could have easily won 20 times this year in theory, but he stands at number 4.
Scheffler reiterated his feelings about the format and called it strange and jokingly remarked that he was not gonna complain about his lead, though. The conversation then touched upon his involvement in the governance of the PGA Tour.
The World No.1 was asked about how involved he is in the policy and framework of the PGA Tour and its future. He responded he is quite new to the tour to get involved in decisions yet.“I don’t know if I’m equipped to be making the decisions for the entire TOUR. But when my opinion is needed, I’m definitely glad to give input.”
He iterated his confidence in the Tiger Woods-led player director team and stated how they consult players like him whenever their inputs can add value.
When asked about his plans for the fall, Scheffler said he won’t be doing much apart from the Ryder Cup. He was not sure about what lay ahead for him after that, but he was sure it wouldn’t be much. “I’ll just be kind of hiding from you guys this fall” he added.

The format of the Tour Championship
This is how the tournament works. Of the thirty people on the list, the bottom five would start with an even par. The rest would start with an under-par score, which varies based on their position on the leaderboard.
The number 1 player will enter the Tour Championship with an initial score of 10-under. The number 2 player will start with 8-under, number 3 will start with 6-under, number 4 with 4-under, and so on.
