At one point during the Tour Championship, Collin Morikawa looked like he was going to go home with the FedEx Cup to his name. After the first two rounds, he still held on to his first position, sharing it with Viktor Hovland. However, the third and fourth rounds did not favor the Korean golfer. He ended up dropping down on the list and finished the tournament tied in the sixth position with Tim Fleetwood and Scottie Scheffler.

Now that the prize money for the tournament has been finalized, Morikawa has announced details of his charity contribution on his Instagram. Let’s get into that information.

After the Wildfire disaster in Hawaii, Morikawa recognized the major losses that occurred in Maui. The 26-year-old has been very vocal about raising funds for the Maui Wildfire victims, alongside the LPGA Tour Pro Michelle Wie West. West helped raise funds of up to $100,000 with her awareness campaigns.

Morikawa also clarified that his gesture was mostly to create awareness about the situation there and to encourage people to contribute as well. He declared a charity routine called ‘Birdies and Eagles’ whereby he announced a $1000 payoff to charity for every birdie he scored. The amount would naturally double for every eagle scored. He had explained at a conference that his contribution would go to two charity funds. The Maui-United Way, and the World Central Kitchen. After he finished sixth position in the tournament, according to Golf Week, Morikawa has bagged a sum of $2 Million for his shared sixth position.

On his Instagram, Morikawa has shared a story that lists the number of birdies and eagles, he had scored. The number amounts to 44 birdies and two eagles. The total sum he will be contributing to the two charity funds would be $48,000.

He started the third round pretty neatly, and he maintained par levels until the fourth hole. It was the fateful fifth hole, that added a double bogey to his score. He maintained par in the next four holes. Then came trouble again in the ninth and the tenth holes where he scored back-to-back bogeys. With about seven holes remaining in the round, Morikawa could only manage to improve his 4-over to a 3-over by scoring the only birdie of the round on the 16th hole.

In the first half fourth round, he scored two bogeys and two birdies negating each other. In the second half, the 14th and 15th holes tested his patience.
