Exactly a week ago, Scottie Scheffler was arrested, and nothing has been the same ever since. Although most of his fans were anticipating his win at the latest PGA Championship in Valhalla, Scheffler was placed only T8. The World Number 1, Scheffler, has been making many disappointing moves on the course ever since, and golf fans are not quite happy with his demeanor. Let us look at his latest action at Colonial Golf Course, which caught much attention.

NUCLR GOLF recently shared a short clip from the Charles Schwab Challenge that commenced on May 23rd. In the second round, the clip portrayed how Scheffler was going above and beyond for a change. In the video, he was seen missing a hole, followed by his putter throw, where he dashed away his golf club like a baton. Not only that but Scheffler was also seen voicing, “Screw these greens, man!” NUCLR GOLF thus shared the video with the following caption: “Scottie Scheffler is not impressed.” Even the commentators noted the irritation on his face and said that he looked “agitated.”

Most fans had been attributing such a change in his career to having been noticed only after he was arrested at Valhalla. As he tried to drive past an accident scene to enter the Valhalla Golf course, Scheffler was slapped with a charge against him for second-degree assault of a police officer and three others. According to ESPN, “Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. The assault charge is a felony; the others are misdemeanors.”

The golfer’s case has had many updates since such as Officer Gillis’s incompetence by not having a body camera turned on, blurry footage recorded from the pole across the street that defied the claims made by police reports, his court date getting postponed to June 3, and finding an ally in ESPN’s employee who claimed that the officer jumped in front of his car to stop him.

The winner of the 106th edition of the PGA Championship, Xander Schauffele, revealed that he and other boys made fun of Scheffler a little bit. He revealed, “We have a group chat with our physio, our team, me, Gary, J.T., Jordan [Spieth], Scottie, Pat—we all share the same physio, so the boys were heckling Scottie a little bit.” But it’s not just the golfers; the whole fandom is making their light humor show up in the present situation of Scottie Scheffler.

Fans blame Scheffler’s arrest for his change in demeanor

One of the fans commented how Scheffler’s scoreboard never portrays any number above par. They said, “Seeing Scottie’s score above par is the oddest thing.” After a long period of 9 months, Scheffler made a triple bogey in the first round on par-3 13th. He shot 2 over on Thursday, his second time going over par in merely a week. At the end of the first round, he ranked 118th in the category out of 132 players. Last weekend, during the third round at Valhalla, he shot 3 over par, breaking his streak over under par or par that had been going on since August 2023.

Another fan alluded to his arrest and remarked how he should keep his lawyers around after he complained about the greens, “Have his lawyers call the greens keepers. “The arrest surely made his reputation quite appalling in the golf industry. Unlike his arrest, fans insinuated how no one can help him with the golf course. As per the golfer’s lawyer, he will be there in court on June 3, and it remains to be seen how the hearing will go. As of yet, the charges are not dropped, and would not be until the investigation is properly concluded.

Reiterating the golfer’s arrest, a fan hysterically commented,Scottie’s vocabulary really went downhill after his time in the joint.” The golfer spent nearly an hour in jail and had a pleasant time there with the officers. They talked to him and cracked jokes as well to put him at ease. The golfer was shaking at all times but was never angry. A senior officer also offered him a sandwich.

However, someone else also speculated how not all the things that are being portrayed on the golf course are because of Scheffler’s arrest. They said, “So if he doesn’t win this week are we still going to say it’s because he got arrested last week??” Scheffler’s performance this season has been impeccable, to say the least. He won 4 events in his 5 starts, and things have not been the same ever since he returned after a short break that he took for his son’s birth. Such a statement questions fans’ belief and faith in Scheffler’s skills and capabilities lately.

Yet another fan stated, “He’s won the Masters (twice). This is totally unprofessional.” This again shows that despite being in the industry for a long and with a much more respectable position, Scheffler’s complaining has been extremely unprofessional and unsuitable to his persona in the golf industry, especially as the present world number 1. The golfer won his first Masters two years in 2022, and this year, after close competition, he won it for the second time.
