Reconfirming things is always a good idea, right? Well, Joel Dahmen seems to believe in that too—and when he put that theory into action at the Houston Open, fans didn’t just relate to it; they absolutely loved it. During the $9.5M Texas Children’s Houston Open, Dahmen found himself staring down a 21-foot birdie putt on the 15th hole. As the ball started rolling, he decided he wasn’t just going to stand and watch.
He walked with it, almost like he was guiding it home. To his and the crowd’s delight, the ball obliged, leading to a memorable moment. The PGA Tour’s official X handle shared the moment, writing: “Hated it … now he loves it.” Fans quickly resonated with Dahmen’s candid reaction.
One commented, “Probably thought he missed it and stopped bc he was like oh s*it it might go in…” Another fan was all in on the moment, saying: “Walking the putt in the second you’ve hit it from 21ft is totally unhinged. I love it.” One commented, “That’s a walk-in.”

It didn’t take long for people to start comparing this to one of the most legendary golf moments—Tiger Woods’s cold-blooded putt at the 2019 Presidents Cup. That’s when Woods buried a match-winning putt against Abraham Ancer, removed his hat, and shook hands before the ball even dropped. Now that’s what you call pure confidence. Golf writer Dylan Dethier humorously noted the parallel, tweeting “Dahmen did the Tiger-vs-Abe-Ancer putt but by accident.” He even called it possibly “the earliest walk-in in golf history.”

And while the moment itself was gold, Dahmen’s performance at the Houston Open wasn’t too shabby either. After completing his second round, he now sits at T45, having scored 4-under on Friday and 3-under overall.
Although he hasn’t grabbed his breakthrough win yet this season, he definitely looks like he’s got everything dialed in.

How was Joel Dahmen’s year so far?
Joel Dahmen’s 2025 season has definitely been a mix of highs and lows. He kicked things off strong with a solid performance at the Farmers Insurance Open in January, finishing tied for 9th place with a 2-under-par 286. It was a great start to the year, showing that he had his game together from the get-go. Then, in February, he kept the momentum going at the Mexico Open, where he finished T6 with an impressive 17-under-par 267. Four rounds of 68, 69, 65, and 65 earned him $245,000 and helped him make a real statement early on.
But as much as those results were great, the season hasn’t been without its struggles. Dahmen missed the cut in four tournaments, including the Sony Open in Hawaii, where he shot even par and couldn’t make the cut. He also had a tough time at the American Express, WM Phoenix Open, and Valspar Championship, where his game just didn’t click enough to make it to the weekend.

Still, Dahmen’s resilience is worth noting. At the Mexico Open, his Strokes Gained stats were pretty solid. He ranked 17th in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee and 12th in Strokes Gained: Putting, showing he’s still got the game in key areas. He’s also managed to stay within the top 125 in the FedExCup standings, which secures his full PGA Tour status for the year.
All in all, it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster for Dahmen, but that’s how golf is, right? He’s had some strong moments and a few setbacks, but with his ability to bounce back, it’ll be exciting to see how the rest of the season plays out for him.
