Was 2024 a year of surprises in the PGA Tour? Scottie Scheffler had taken 7 official PGA Tour titles at home by the end of the season. This included an amazing win at the 2024 Masters Tournament to wear the 2nd green jacket of his career.

But many more other professional golfers deserved as much attention throughout the season. While fans might be thinking of Bryson DeChambeau, Xander Schauffele, or Rory McIlroy, we had something else in our minds.

Let’s take a look at 3 shocking victories in the PGA Tour in 2024.

Wyndham Clark at Pebble Beach Golf Links

While the world no. 7 may have proven his worth over the years, no one imagined how things would end after his 3rd round performance at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tournament. Coming off an average first round ending on par, Clark recovered a bit the next day managing a score of -5. However, he was nowhere near the top of the table as the board leader Ludvig Aberg had a massive 6-stroke lead against him.

However, superhuman performance in the third round where he scored 9 birdies and 2 eagles ensured that he jumped up to the top of the table. He ended round 3 with a score of -17, 1 stroke clear of Aberg. And that is how things ended as the 4th day of the event was washed off due to rain. Clark’s comeback helped him capture the title sooner than expected, leaving behind a trophyless Ludvig Aberg for the entire season.

Nick Dunlap at Pete Dye Stadium Course

Coming off an exciting amateur season, Nick Dunlap was ready to jump at any opportunity he got to show off his skills. Still not a pro, the then-20-year-old was invited by the PGA Tour to participate in the American Express back in January 2024. However, Jay Monahan & co. would have not imagined how things would have turned out at the end of the 4-day event.

Did Nick Dunlap's amateur win overshadow Scottie Scheffler's Masters triumph in 2024?

Have an interesting take?

Competing with the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, & Xander Schauffele, Dunlap dominated the field with a score of 29-under par 259 to claim the title. This was the first time an amateur had won a PGA Tour event since Phil Mickelson’s triumph 33 years ago in 1991. A few months later, Nick Dunlap won another PGA Tour event, the 2024 Barracuda Championship, as a pro this time. This was a record-setting win as Dunlap became the first ever player in history to win PGA Tour events as an amateur and a pro in the same season.

Stephan Jaeger at Memorial Park Golf Course

A couple of weeks before Scottie Scheffler stepped on to Augusta National, he was up against a formidable field in the 2024 Texas Children’s Houston Open. Favorite to win the tournament, the world no. 1 was tied with Stephan Jaeger at the top of the table at the end of round 3. Fans expected Mr. Inevitable to take the lead and capture another trophy before playing at the Masters Tournament.

However, things didn’t go as planned for him as Jaeger pulled off an amazing performance at Memorial Park Golf Course to steal the victory and the possible 8th title off of Scottie Scheffler. It was an emotional victory for Stephan Jaeger as he had failed to reach the top even once since joining the PGA Tour in 2018.

These were some of the biggest shockers in the 2024 season of the PGA Tour. There are a few more honorable mentions like Robert MacIntyre, Nico Echavarria, Rafael Campos, Davis Thompson, and Maverick McNealy who had their own share of surprising wins this season.
