Tiger Woods will tee off at the PNC Championship later this week with his son, Charlie. The 15-time major champion playfully dubbed the tournament as their ‘fifth major.’ Team Woods came close to sniffing victory in 2021 but was stopped by another major winner and his son. Charlie Woods is all grown up now and has a sparkling resume as a Benjamin Buccaneer. But the road to victory is never easy, and here are three teams that might give a tough time to Woods & his son.

Defending champions of the PNC Championship

Bernhard Langer and son Jason posted 13-under 59 in the final round last year. For Senior Langer, it was his fifth win, the third time with his son, Jason. Junior Langer is an ace golfer himself, a staple of his collegiate golf team. Jason started hitting clubs at the young age of three.

However, he is not a professional despite a stellar career at Penn Athletics. The Wharton grad is currently a full-time employee with a New York-based investment firm. Langer will look to defend his title after winning a record-breaking 46th Senior Tour victory at the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship last month.

Team Daly returns to action at the Ritz-Carlton

John Daly and his son are also former champions of the family event. Team Daly stopped Tiger Woods and Charlie’s march at the 2021 PNC Championship. In addition, they are also two-time runner-ups (2018 and 2022). Like his two-time major-winner father, John Daly II is also a Razorback.

In the 2023-24 season, Daly II posted three top-15s and two top-10s. Senior Daly, meanwhile, has been plagued by injuries this year. So, like Woods, Daly too will rely more on his son’s youth than on his experience.

Don’t ignore the Strickers at the PNC Championship

12-time PGA Tour winner, Steve Stricker, will once again pair up with his daughter, Izzi. Last year, the Wisconsin Badger received high praise from Tiger Woods himself. She also got a chance to meet her idol, Nelly Korda. Strickers are a family of golf; Izzi’s mother was also part of the Wisconsin Badgers roster. Notably, Senior Stricker himself is on a hot run netting 12 top-tens in the Senior Tour including one title.

Aside from them, former champion, Vijay Singh, Woods’s rival from the 2000s, and his son, Qass will tee off at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club as well. Padraig Harrington will also return with his son, Paddy. Woods’s other former rival, David Duval is also listed in the field. He will tee off with his son Brady this week. Notably, Team Woods is slated to tee off in one of the two pro-ams. You can catch all the action live on Golf and NBC Sports App.
