The PGA Tour has moved to the west of Colorado for the second FedExCup playoff event with the top 50 of its players. The BMW Championship will have many exceptional talents in the field, including world no. 1 Scottie Scheffler, two-time major winner, Xander Schauffele, 26-time PGA Tour winner Rory McIlroy and many more. But it will be missing one name—the man, the myth, the legend, Tiger Woods!
The 48-year-old has concluded his 2024 season and may be seen playing only next year. And without the top position at the FedExCup Standings, something he once dominated, Woods will be missed. So until he comes back, here are the three top moments of the 82-time PGA Tour winner from the BMW Championship.

Who else but Tiger Woods could turn a disastrous shot into an iconic birdie? At the 2009 BMW Championship played at the Cog Hill Golf and Country Club, the 48-year-old took a wayward drive that ended deep inside the trees. Woods took another shot at the par-5 ninth hole and it was again in the rough. However, through his third approach, the 15-time major winner made it on the green and made an unexpected birdie. The birdie putt amazed the on-course reporter, Roger Maltbie, making him call it “all universe birdie.”
Eventually, Woods carded 62 on that day, the third round, and matched the course record only to win the 2009 BMW Championship (the last time) with the next, defeating Jim Furyk and Marc Leishman by 8 stroke lead to add the 71st PGA Tour win.

2. When Woods met course record at the 2018 BMW Championship
During the 2018 BMW Championship, expectations were high, but no one expected a course-record match. The then-42-year-old started the opening round with a scintillating 6 under 29 on the front nine. He followed that up with three more birdies on the back nine and ended the round with an 8 under 62. Woods performance on the course that day also helped him and match the Aronimink Golf Club’s record of 62 set by Nick Watney.
It was the second-best round shot by Woods in five years after he shot 9 under 61 at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in 2013. Although the 15-time major winner didn’t win the BMW Championship that year, the blistering round still made the headlines!

3. Tiger Woods’s sixth PGA Tour win
Woods was coming in hot in the 1997 season! It was way before the Western Open was renamed to the BMW Championship. The then-21-year-old was playing in his second season on the PGA Tour and he had previously won five times, including his first victory at the 1997 Masters in Augusta National.

On the moving day, he shot a 68 and was tied for the lead going into the final round. After shooting back-to-back birdies on the 14th and 15th hole, Woods took the sixth PGA Tour title of his life and defeated Frank Nobilo by three strokes with a scoreline of 13 under 275.
Woods last played the BMW Championship in 2019 and since has been unable to make it to the FedExCup playoffs. Who knows if he will play it ever again, but until then, the fan can reminisce about his past games.
