The Solheim Cup is scheduled from September 13 to September 15. For the biennial event, the USA team will have 12 players representing the nation. While nine of them had automatically qualified due to their rankings, captain Stacy Lewis completed the team on Tuesday with her three wild card picks. The 29 YO professional golfer, Lexi Thompson was one of them.
Following the FM Championship, they will be headed to Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia after a gap of five or six days. In a conversation with the press before that, when asked about the chance of playing captaincy at the 2026 Solheim Cup, despite her retirement announcement after the 2024 season, Lexi Thompson hinted toward a potential comeback.
She said, “Yeah, I could definitely see that happening. It’s something — the Solheim Cup has in my mind made my career. It’s one of the best events possible that I’ve ever played. Being able to represent your country, there is nothing like it.” Advocating about mental reset, she further added, “It’s important because it’s a very long week with the practice rounds and the things that we have to get to and starting Friday. It’s long days.”

And being back in their home, this year it is utterly important that the team practices together, building up the relationships and getting a flow for the week. “That is what it’s all about, coming together as one, as a team, and making sure we’re ready as soon as we step foot on the first tee on Friday,” added the American professional.
Amidst all the conversations, the golfer shared her dream of being able to not just represent but lead her country at an event as prestigious as this. “To be able to be part of it in some type of way, whether assistant captain or captaining, it’s something on the top of my list,” said Lexi Thompson at the post-round presser of the FM Championship on Saturday.
