The PGA Tour’s 2024 season is soon ending with the Tour Championship. The tour will crown the PGA Tour Champion this weekend after the Tour Championship. Meanwhile, Jay Monahan is already looking ahead towards the 2025 season and recently shared his plans. What can we expect in the next season? Are there any improvements?
1. Modernized Broadcast
The tour is working with its network partners to enhance the broadcasting experience. They will focus primarily on TV in the hope of attracting fans from different corners of the world calling it the “World feed.” This will be achieved through various surveys that gather average audience preferences to determine the most suitable language for broadcasting the tournaments. They will also factor in professional players from different countries to improve the overall broadcast experience.

Basically, if you are watching a PGA Tour tournament from Japan, you can expect to see more Japanese pros like Hideki Matsuyama on the screen as well as Japanese commentary. The World feed might help to overall decrease the decline in viewership considering that the tour already experienced a 20% viewership decline this year.
2. The PGA Tour-PIF merger discussion will continue
The PGA Tour-PIF deal is something that fans have been waiting for more than a year now. However, since then, we have heard nothing but updates. Unfortunately, the discussion is expected to continue in the upcoming season as well. While talking about this ,Monahan said in the press conference ,“But at the same time, these conversations are complex. They’re going to take time. They have taken time, and they will continue to take time.”
Monahan didn’t specify how much time it would take and further added “But I’m not going to negotiate details in public or disclose details or specifics. All I can say is that conversations continue, and they’re productive.” Just like pros like Rory McIlroy and others Monahan also wants the merger to happen. Despite that, there still isn’t a deadline for this long-awaited deal. “The PGA Tour still wants to have the merger – not because of the money but to get the LIV Golfers and Tour players together,” said the Commissioner.
3. The PGA Tour is thinking about LIV Golfers
What’s your perspective on:
Will the LIV Golf merger finally bring the excitement back to the PGA Tour?
Have an interesting take?
After joining the breakaway league there were pros like Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson, and more who never yielded their membership because of PGA Tour rules and regulations. In the 2025 season, players can look forward to enjoying membership benefits sooner. Tyler Dennis mentioned that players who are members or part of the TOUR will also be subject to all tournament regulations and conduct policies. Although he didn’t go into many details, it’s confirmed that there will be specific guidelines for this.
4. Alignment with the players
While sharing a new schedule, it’s important to see how it aligns with pros. Considering that, the player directors or members of the Player Advisory Council will engage more with the golfers. Not only that, they will also provide a “strong guiding hand” as they are moving forward. In this, the player equity program will play a huge role.

Yes, it’s not possible in some cases if any golfer encounters an urgent situation. Despite that, they will focus more on the pros to make it comfortable to play keeping all the factors in mind. For this too the player directors and Player Advisory Council will share the guidelines with the golfers.

Sounds strange isn’t it? But you read it right, Jay Monahan will also focus on influencers and Youtubers to promote golf. It’s indeed true that there are already influencers like Paige Spiranac and also golfers like Bryson DeChambeau making original content. But in the 2025 season, the tour will focus even more on the influencers to promote golf as much as they can. It’s also worth noting that,Monahan is talking about promoting golf here ,not the PGA Tour.
Bonus pointer: At the start of the conference, Monahan also talked about Grayson Murray and his victory at the Sony Open. Considering that do you think we will see any differences at the tournament as well?
These are just five key highlights from the interview, but there are many other minor adjustments as well. Which one are you most excited about? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
