The 2025 American Express has already garnered much attention. Mostly for the absence of World No. 1 and No. 2. But despite the absence of those big names, the 156-player field is still packed with a mix of veterans, rookies, and some rising stars all fighting for a whopping $1.584 million winner’s share. What’s been really interesting is how the weekend’s shaping up.
After 54 holes, the top 65 players (and ties) advanced to Sunday’s final round at the Stadium Course. Right now, the leaderboard is packed with big names like Jason Day (19 under), Patrick Cantlay (18 under), and Justin Thomas (17 under). But there’s also a fair share of well-known players packing their bags early after missing the cut in Round 3.
With the final round on the helm, Sepp Straka’s holding the lead at 23 under, with a four-shot cushion over Charley Hoffman, Day, and Justin Lower. After three rounds, 71 players are still in the mix for Sunday, with the cut coming in at 9-under 207.

Let’s see the top players who couldn’t quite cut the American Express.
1. Kevin Kisner:
Kisner’s gig at the 2025 American Express didn’t quite go as planned. His performance didn’t improve much as the rounds went on—he shot a 71 in Round 1, followed by a 75 in Round 2, and then a 72 in Round 3, finishing at 2 over, which unfortunately sent him packing early. It’s not the first time Kisner’s faced this fate at the American Express—he was out by Round 3 last year as well.
Looking back at 2024, it wasn’t exactly Kisner’s best year. He played in 23 events but only made the cut in six of them. No wins and it was a dry season for the four-time PGA Tour winner. That said, it’s still early in the 2025 season, so there’s plenty of time for him to turn things around. Let’s not count him out just yet—Kisner has the talent, and a little time could see him back to his best! He’ll be making appearances in TGL season 1, fans sure would be looking forward to more of him after the Match 2 debacle.
2. Zach Johnson:
Johnson started his year at the Sony Open in Hawaii where he was T21. He came close when he was in contention after 36 holes. His last victory was back at the 2015 Open Championship, so you can bet that win is still on his mind. His performance at American Express looks like there’s still some work to do. He started strong with a 69 in the first round and followed it up with a solid 67 in Round 2. But Round 3 didn’t quite go his way. He shot a 73, leaving him at 7 under, missing the cutline of 9 under.
3. Wyndham Clark:
2023 US Open winner. 2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM winner. That’s Wyndham Clark for you. His performance at the 2025 Sentry was subpar. He finished tied at 15th, so seeing him miss the cut at the American Express was surprising.
He started with a 71 on Thursday and managed to keep the momentum going with a 69 on Friday. Came Saturday, and he lost the momentum. He shot another 71, leaving him at 5 under, which ultimately wasn’t enough to make the cut.

4. Cameron Young:
Finishing T8 at the Sentry was impressive. But golf is about consistency, and that’s where things slipped for Young at the American Express. Young shot 69 in Round 1, but things took a turn in Round 2 when he shot a 74. Then, in Round 3, it got worse with him carding 75, leaving him at 2 over for the tournament.
5. Tom Kim:

Kim’s start to the season hasn’t exactly been all too well. He started the season with the Sony Open finishing tied for 65th. And now at American Express, he even failed to make it to the final round. Kim’s scores were inconsistent. He started with a 73, followed by a 69, and then a 68 in Round 3. With a total of 6 under, it just wasn’t enough to keep him in the mix. This isn’t the first time the American Express has given Kim trouble, either. He was also out after Round 3 last year.
Other notable players who are out of the game are Joel Dahmen, Jake Knapp, Tony Finau, Sungjae Im, and 2023 Open winner Brian Harman. As the season continues, there’s plenty more action ahead, and these players will definitely be eager to turn things around in the upcoming events. So stay tuned!!
