Can the LIV Golf pros dominate the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship 2024 and prove their critics wrong?

The golf world is beaming with anticipation for the upcoming Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. This DP World Tour Championship will be taking place at the Old Course at St Andrews, Kingsbarns, and Carnoustie. While the tournament in itself is incredible, what makes it even better is the involvement of some of the top LIV golfers.

Not one but 14 LIV golfers are set to join the showdown including the likes of Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton. They will be playing with PGA Tour pros Rory McIlroy and Shame Lowry. But who are the top 5 LIV golfers to battle it out?

Jon Rahm

First on the list is Jon Rahm, as many of you might have expected. Rahm will be competing in October’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which is a crucial step in his hard work to remain eligible for the 2025 Ryder Cup, and we already know how much of that is already messed up.

After appealing against DP World Tour sanctions, he needs to play in four events to keep his card. He has already participated in the Spanish Open, where he lost the trophy to someone who idolizes him, Ángel Hidalgo in a playoff. Alongside the Dunhill Links, he’ll participate in the Andalucia Masters as well, which is set to take off in mid-October.

Tyrrell Hatton

Nex in the line is Saudi-backed league superstar Tyrrell Hatton. The golfer will join his Legion XIII skipper and others in hopes of cementing his 2025 Ryder Cup eligibility. The golfer has already participated in the Dubai Desert Classic and British Masters, where he secured the T31st and T18th spots, respectively. The golfer’s performance saw a significant improvement in the Spanish Open, where he made a decent score of 8 under par to secure the T10th spot.

Brooks Koepka

Have an interesting take?

No one should be surprised as to why Brooks Koepka is the third in line. The 5-time major champion is a serious links golf enthusiast who will be making an exciting return to the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. This will mark his return to DPWT in over 4 years. The last time he teed off on the European circuit was in February 2020. Having one victory this year, the Links Championship may be a good chance for the golfer to showcase his skills and take home the trophy.

He loves the Alfred Dunhill Championship and what it has to offer; “I’ve been fortunate to play in several Dunhill Links, as well as two Open Championships at St Andrews over the years, and these trips are always highlights to my year. The atmosphere on and off the course at the Dunhill is fantastic. I was able to play with my father one year and my good friend and caddie, Ricky Elliott, another. Those two weeks will always be very special to me. I love Links golf and St Andrews is my favourite course in the world. I could play there every day for the rest of my life and never get tired of it,” Koepka said, according to the tournament’s official website.

David Puig

The next golfer in line is David Puig. Puig will be joining the strong field of European stars and fellow LIV Golf players in the Pro-Am event spanning three iconic courses. Puig’s participation in the Links Championship is only because of the new category for Asian Tour players. This exciting development comes after the golfer’s amazing performance on the Asian Tour. Apart from that, the golfer has had 2 top-10 performances, which include the recent Spanish Open, where the golfer took the 3rd spot with a score of 10 under par.

Patrick Reed

Last but not least, Patrick Reed. The golfer is another LIV Golf standout who will be participating in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Reed will be joining the strong field after a decent performance at the 2024 Spanish Open, where the golfer made a score of 8 under par to rest in T10th position. Apart from that, Reed has also performed in 2 more DP World Tours, where he got the T29th and T13th positions. So, this may be his chance to secure a victory at the 2024 Links Championship.
