Norman speaks up about R&A’s 150th Open Championship celebration.
R&A recently announced that it did not invite Greg Norman to the Celebration of Champions as well as the Champions Dinner. The officials said, “We can confirm that we contacted Greg Norman to advise him that we decided not to invite him to attend on this occasion.” The decision was made in order to avoid any diversion from the celebration and to ensure that all the focus stays on the motive of the event.
In his response, Norman said, “I’m disappointed.” I would have thought the R&A would have stayed above it all given their position in world golf. “ Norman has brought in many PGA Tour players to join his Saudi-backed league, and as a result, he has received a lot of controversy for the same. However, he is hardly going to stop. It is uncertain what the future holds for the sport at the PGA Tour’s end.
